Relay Attacks
What do you guys know about these type of thefts? I just ordered a Faraday Bag
for my IS and my wife's Infiniti QX30.

No two-factor on the keyless system, so no security at all. The car doesn't even care if the key is inside the vehicle or not when started. If they can relay the signal, they can just drive off without it present.
I store my keys in an ammo can and otherwise keep them in a faraday pouch if I'm out and about. Beyond that, if they really want your car, they will take it anyway given enough motivation. Just do what is reasonable for security and convenience and don't dwell on it.

My first comment is that I'm going to take this as a compliment...cause they're not stealing BMW's or MB's...just Toyota products
The fact is that thieves have been stealing RAV4, Highlander, 4Runner, RX, GX, and LX for years...so this isn't really new news...Especially from cities with access to open water like Ottawa and parts of Quebec.
And the fact is they don't want to ship crap overseas that's going to give them constant trouble with repairs that require expensive parts.
Also it's not that Toyota vehicles are any more or less vulnerable than other vehicles...they can steal the other ones just as easy.
The premise on how Smart Keys work is fairly consistent across manufacturers...so it's really all about what they want to steal...and opportunity of course.
I would assume insurance is going to cover the cost of replacement...and regardless if you make a claim or not, your insurance is going to go up at the end of the year anyways, so might as well let them buy you a new vehicle.
I do keep my keys near the front door...in a metal key box...but that was more happenstance than deliberate.

it's just a car. i wouldn't worry about making it too hard to steal. you'll just want to make them force their way inside your house and get the keys from you. yeah some of you might say bUt I'Ll dEfEnD mYseLf. I get it. but it's better to avoid confrontation if you can. especially over a car.

The Ring doorbell. No guarantee, but they'll probably move on. I think it's best to make things as difficult as possible for thieves.

You can disable the key fob so that it will no longer receive radio waves (and therefore will not respond when the thief spoofs your car). Press and hold the lock button, then press the unlock button 2x, and the keyless entry will no longer work. You can turn the fob back on by pressing any button on it.
