Default Oil Change Interval

Hey guys, I have had my 2016 is200t since march/april, and in that time I have put approximately 15k miles on it. I have been taking it to the dealer for the 5k maintenance appointments as my car came with 5 free maintenance services. However, after taking it in the other day, I was refused service due to them being busy, and they told me my car's oil wouldn't be changed this time because it's done on a 10k mile interval. I personally feel like 10k miles is too much to go on the same oil. Especially on a turbo-charged engine, lots of short drives, etc. What is your opinion on a 10k oil change interval?

From Page 71 of your Lexus WARRANTY AND SERVICES GUIDE:

I also agree the interval is too long. IMHO, 5K is the correct interval.

10k is minimum. I feel 5k is overkill, unless you are tuned (turbo).

I think 7-8k is a happy medium.

but oil is cheap and this engine uses so little of it, so 5k isn't the end of the world and will give you peace of mind.

I personally do 7,500 miles. If I wanted to do less I would use synthetic blend, but I never use synthetic blend so I make the full synthetic actually worth it. Just my opinion. When I did this past oil change the oil was clearly fine and that was after 7,500 miles.

After I got my 2014 IS 350 AWD, I switched it over to full synthetic, so I could just do annual oil changes.
That has typically been ~5000 miles anyway, as the car is primarily my 'winter' car. This year will be different, as I've needed to use it most of the spring/summer/fall, and have already hit the 5k mark (and reset the maintenance required indicator), so it will actually be closer to the 10k mark by next spring, when I normally change the oil. I don't drive it hard, so I'm not concerned, and that is why I switched to the full synthetic, to give me that extra mileage between changes.

Yeah coming up at 5k on my CT200h F Sport (prius engine) so i am debating doing it at 5k cause it's so cheap (and fun) or waiting until 7k. i know deep down inside my oil is super clean and not needing of changing but the other part of me wants to be proactive and give myself a little project to do. Changing your oil is good cause it gives you the opportunity to poke around your car and inspect it. like if you see something else starting to leak or come loose.

To each their own, there's no right answer besides don't go more than 10k miles between oil changes especially if you drive hard and make sure to only use full synthetic. lol

I bought my 2016 200 F Sport three weeks ago. I logged in to Lexus' website, which shows me details on my car's history, which is
quite nice. More details than the Carfax report. The car had 5,000 mile interval maintenance service at the dealership the car was leased
from, which was 4,000 miles ago. Does this mean they changed the oil? I assume so, but want to be sure, so I know when next to change
my oil. Also, do I get an indicator light that tells me when maintenance is due, like my CLA did, or do I just keep up with it on my own?
Thanks a lot.

Unless specifically stated, the 5k interval service doesn’t include oil change since the recommended interval is every 10k.

Yes, there is a maintenance notification on your dash when the mileage reaches 5k/10k.
