Default WTB Obsidian Touchup Paint

I washed the car this past weekend and noticed a small nick on my hood that has removed paint, most likely from some small rock while driving on the highway. It's not big, but it was painful to see on my black IS. I know there are a ton of "black" automotive touchup paint out there, but would you recommend the touchup paint specifically from Lexus dealer or use any generic touchup paints out there at a Napa Autoparts? Which would be the easiest to apply and is there any good method to apply it so it doesn't stand out?

On a side note and for giggles, as I was washing my car I happened to accidentally lock it since I had the key in my pocket. As I was drying off the car, I wanted to open up the fuel door and couldn't. I panicked thinking that the fuel door somehow got jammed or stuck, until I later realized it was because the car was locked. That's new to me (although I'm sure it's a safety/security mechanism)... I guess I never came to a scenario where I locked my car and then put gas in the car. Coming from a Corolla and other cars, I'm used to either a button or a pull lever from the inside of the car to open the fuel door.

I have no obsidian too and need to pull out my touch-up pen again also.

Suggested to order OEM paint pen. I think our paint code is 212 but double check that. I bought on eBay original Toyota/Lexus part.

Tip, becareful on how much you apply. It takes just the tiniest dab to fill in a 1/8 in rock chip. If you want to cover with clear gonna need to buy that separate.

A dab-ill-do-yuh, or something like that.

touching up tiny nicks, i've found the paint color matching not to be the largest concern, particularly on easy colors like black or white. i did purchase an obsidian touch up paint jar from a paint seller on eBay for the roof of my Ct200h f sport which uses obsidian. looks fine to me, but any black would have too, just for tiny chips. your eye is not going to be able to discern a 0.05% difference in black in something the size of a pin, from any respectable viewing difference. you'd have more of a difference in color just by the fact you are using new paint on old paint, even if you did have the oem match.

that being said of course it's always best to have the exact same color by the OE, but it'll cost you. i already researched it. that's why i went the happy medium and got aftermarket match. works great. i believe the one i got on ebay was like $11 shipped. while OE was like $45

Thanks I found something on eBay for $15 for an "OEM Toyota/Lexus" black touchup pen. I think the paint code was 212 as Homer350 mentioned above - is that the same paint for all 3IS?

i think paintscratch.com has a paint look up. but it might be the same color shared through out many toyota/lexus products. as long as it says obsidian and that's what you have

Yeah your good. Mine was $20.

It's nice to have the oem. I had a scratch on my lip that came up to where you could see it from the front of the car, the color match was nice to have in that instance.

For simple colours like black you can get away with off the shelf black touch up paint as I did for my 2010 IS250, $4 from Amazon (from china).
Before that I think the brand I used was duplicolor.

I bought this from Amazon a few months back. I've tried it and it matches beautifully. I had lots of scratches when I purchased the car a few years back and started getting lots of rock chips as well. This matches perfectly, comes with applicators brushes, blender and wax, instructions. Only possible downside is it was shipped from outside of US. Turkey, I believe. So take that what you will.
