Default School me on exhaust set-ups

2018 IS 300 AWD F-Sport - bone stock. Decided this will be a car I keep for as long as it runs and want to start customizing it. First up is exhaust - I love the sound of the motor but the stock exhaust is, in a word, weak.

What can I do to make it better - Midpipe? Resonator? I shouldn’t need a full exhaust system with the F-sport exhaust I’ve got, right? I like deep, throaty exhaust tones and don’t like raspy too much. What’s my best option here? Also, are there two different versions of the ‘F-sport’ exhaust I’ve read about here?

Thanks!

The F sport exhaust(axleback) doesn't come with the f sport model. There are many threads on all the different combinations of exhaust people have run. I'd suggest a catback at least. Our cars are pretty damn quiet. If you don't like rasp then keep the res on whatever midpipe you get. Aftermarket midpipes generally delete the secondary cats which opens up the sound a lot more as well as less restrictive mufflers on the axle.

The F-Sport exhaust is an additional upgrade from Lexus. It is not the stock axleback that comes with our cars.

I'm currently running the F-Sport axleback with an Invidia midpipe and personally love the sound. It sounds like a 370z because of how refined and throaty the exhaust note is. If you're trying to avoid rasp, I would recommend the Tanabe (quieter side), JoeZ (louder), or F-Sport (best option ).

Hey,

We can get you setup with an axle back first for some extra sound.

OR headers or a midpipe first. Just depends what you're going after.

Feel free to text me at 213 394 2886.

Appreciate the schooling from everybody. I figured F-Sport exhaust meant I had it! Good to know. Do you have a video clip of your exhaust sound? I don’t want too much rasp on the rev up, but don’t mind a few pops on the way back down, if that makes sense. Just don’t want it overly raspy. Sounds like this might be a good option for me. I want it louder, just not so loud I wake the neighbors up and **** them off.

Out of the many exhaust videos I’ve listened to so far, this one has sounded the best to me. I know the video is an IS350 compared to my 300, but what’s the best way to emulate this sound?

That looks familiar!

You have the 3.5L, yes? Best way to emulate it is to get the same -- full Tsudo catback. You have essentially the same engine so it will sound identical.

Hey, I don't think this would be an appropriate place to post this, but if you end up parting out your exhaust tips, I'd be interested in making a purchase for them!

Referring to mine? I may sell those and the Tsudo resonators alright, but giving a friend right of first refusal. Can let you know.

Correct, same engine, but all the Tsudo options I see only list IS250 or IS350 compatibility? I also assume there’s a difference on the AWD vs RWD models? Lastly, seems like the Tsudo requires some modification to get it to fit, is that accurate?

thanks!

The 300 in AWD is simply a detuned 350; they are identical. But yes, AWD has different exhaust pipe at the front left section, just like we have a "bump" in our footwell. If an exhaust is not specifically made for AWD you will need a shop to alter the one piece, but it's not a big job. See my build thread for more pics.

In fact, the shop configured it so both sides are nearly identical, which begs the question why all manufacturers couldn't have made a single model that would fit both RWD and AWD.
