2014 IS250 Check Headlight System
Hey guys,
Was wondering if anyone has had this message pop-up before?
Honestly, I didn't have this message until recently I went to get a general service/oil change (~80K miles) at the dealership, and after I got my car back, that message started popping up "Check Headlight System".
I took it back to the dealership and they said the Bulbs were fine, but would be $150 to diagnose.
I was wondering if anyone else has had this message or know what it could be?
Two things I can think of:
1) I tend to see this message once I enter a dark area like a parking garage, which tells me it might be that sensor that detects whether to turn on the headlights in a dark area. (but they headlights work fine as of now)
2) The dealership mentioned that the battery I have is currently the wrong size, it is bigger than it's supposed to be (I'm guessing one of the shops I got some work done switched the battery or something...). Could this simply be causing the issue? I'm thinking maybe if I replace the battery with proper size that message will go away.
As of right now, I don't see any issues with my headlights besides that message popping up on my dash.

But a couple questions may help pin point the issue...
Only get the message when you drive into the dark and turning on the headlights when when set to auto? Does the auto function work? Does it happen when manually turning on lights?
Make sure ALL lights are coming on and working properly not just headlights. Parking lights, blinker, etc.
Does your car have AFS? Do the headlights look aligned properly? I saw some 2nd gen IS have this warning light in regard to headlight alignment, and specifically AFS. Different system I believe, though it may be worth looking at especially if you have the AFS headlight feature.
As for the battery I don't think that'd be a concern. Make sure your output on that battery meets or exceeds OEM but I'm pretty sure it will. OEM batteries are usually bare minimum req. and a bigger battery usually = more amps.
If you had a battery installed and weren't aware of it may check connections while we're on the topic. Even a slightly un-tight battery terminal can cause some weird things to happen.
