Backup camera won't turn on- where to start troubleshooting?
14 with 45K miles here. When I shift the gear into 'R', the screen goes blank, no "Check vehicle surroundings" message or anything, just completely blank.
I restarted the vehicle a few times but this behavior still happens. Where can I start troubleshooting this issue? Is there a fuse I can look at ? Car is a 2014 so it's out of warranty, so I want to see if i can fix it myself before having to take it to the dealer.
Turns out I had a loose connection at the camera in the trunk.
Went into the service menu by press and holding menu and flipping the headlights on and off 4 times.
found that I was throwing a fault code C1622 "Open or Short Circuit in back camera signal"
took apart the trunk liner and jiggled the connection going into the camera. started getting a feed after putting it in place. Will look at it closer today to see if there are any frays and if i need to make it more secure...
I have the beatsonic dvd/nav in motion kit, and front camera kit. Whenever I have had my battery disconnected for a long period of time, or the battery dies. I've lost functionality in my factory backup camera. To resolve that, I would have to take the nav screen out, disconnect the piggyback connectors for the beatsonic front video kit, and then just reconnect everything as factory, start the car, trigger reverse gear and confirm backup camera works, then turn off car and reconnect the front camera kit.
I've run into this a few times, and all you need is a panel tool, and a 10mm socket.

I've also experienced this numerous times and used to perform the same procedures. I've found though that when this happens, if I wait a few hours or maybe its a few ignition cycles, it seems to correct itself. Not sure why this happens.

that sounds alot easier than what I've been doing. i dont always have tools in my car haha.
I have tried waiting a while before and that never works out for me, i've never waited long enough to just let it cycle through enough ignition cycles for the car to "remember it has a backup camera"

I have the Beatsonic front camera interface installed as well as the DVD bypass and screen mirror. If I disconnect all this and return to a stock config it immediately does recognize the backup camera. So it definitely is one of those aftermarket add-ons. But like you, I don't always have the tools on me to take the dash apart. It is super annoying, but it does seem to fix itself eventually. I suffer from a parasitic battery drain, so I try to keep the car battery trickle charged if I don't drive for more than 2 day, otherwise I have to deal with the cameras not working.

I've heard that a gateway ecu replacement and a new battery seems to have fixed it. Hope you can get the dealership to get you sorted.
I replaced the gateway ECU with the recommended part number, but battery drain still happens. Unfortunately way past warranty on the car, so kind of on my own figuring this out. Not a huge deal at this point, but I haven't had the time to setup a proper parasitic draw test. The only down side when the battery does drain are the front/backup cameras being inoperable for a little while.
