tkr128 - Thanks you this forum! Did you try to disassemble the GS mirror to see if you could us that actuator? I tried looking up the actuators from amayama.com as you said but they are permanently sold out. I tried elsewhere on the internet and couldn't find them either so I wasn't sure if the GS mirrors with the actuators would work?

Yup, I took them completely apart and the motors are molded to the metal base of the mirror. Unfortunately the GS bases are different from the IS bases and won't fit. You can also try Partsouq to see if they have any in stock.

Also a note for anybody attempting this: The LHD and RHD motors are different and while they will work and fold, they don't fold in the correct distance. In RHD cars, the left mirror is angled in more than LHD cars, so they do not need to fold in as much. Same goes for the right mirrors which are angled out more than LHD and fold in more.

As far as the AUTO function goes, I was told it will require a reflash of the Body ECU and is nearly impossible since they program the ECU with VIN. I've bought an aftermarket controller and switch but haven't got around to wiring it all up.

Beyond me why Lexus didn't include autofold mirrors as an option in the 2021 IS -- I tore one of my mirrors off parking in the garage when I had my 2014 IS250 and had to manually fold my mirrors all the time.

I tried Partsouq but they don't have any in stock either. It seems like its a dead end on making this happen. Thank you for your help!

Great thread.

I did power folding mirrors on my 2020 RCF. I think I'm the only one that has done this in the US. I got mirrors from Norway with the corresponding options that my car had along with the new window control switch. It was very expensive. More than what anyone I know wants to spend..lol But for what the car was msrp it was ridiculous for it not to have power folding mirrors. It already had the wiring and the door modules so that wasn't an added expense.

Now I have a 2016 as a spare car and really want to add power folding mirrors. Problem is that I am only finding mirrors from England or cheap from Japan yahoo auctions. I'm taking the door panels off tomorrow and seeing about the door ecu modules... but from what I am reading in your post you are saying that the RHD and LHD bases do not just bolt on? They are physically different in terms of placement?

I don't care about the mirror glass because I already bought EU aspherical (convex) glass so they are both going to get replaced regardless of where I am getting the actual mirror assemblies from.

No one has done this mod on the CT group... it's pretty dead both here on the forums and on FB in terms of mods like this which is a shame.

But the mirror control switch is around $50 so it's cheap. And mirror assemblies are also not bad depending on where they are from. My concern is the mounting of them.... Sorry if this is a dumb question asked above. I just want to know for sure if the bases for mounting them (part with 3 studs that go into the door/body) would bolt up regardless if it's LHD or RHD vehicle. If they aren't then it might not be worth it to do, but if they do, then i'd only be out a couple hundred bucks if the mirrors don't fold in...etc.

Thanks,
-Nigel

I got the actuators from amayama.com. Pretty quick turnaround from them. Part numbers for the actuators if anyone is interested are:
87909-53020-XX LH side
87908-53020-XX RH side
XX is for the color code. I have Nebula Gray/Mercury Gray so mine was B0, black is C0.

Alternatively, if you can find 87909-53030-XX and 87908-53030-XX, these are the LHD versions from UAE. 87909-53010-XX and 87908-53010-XX are Korean-spec and may also work. The Korean-spec mirrors actually show up in US parts catalogs but nobody can order them (I tried).

As far as auto-fold goes, I'm going to have a buddy look into the Body ECU to see if there's anything there than can be changed to enable them. Because the mirror-folding signal is sent by the Body ECU, there are no wires to tap into that would make this work easily using the factory controls. The button on the mirror switch to fold the mirrors sends a signal to the Body ECU, which then sends another signal to the Mirror ECU that then sends the signal to the mirror to fold/unfold. It's really annoying because Toyota left the mirror fold feature enabled in the ECU, otherwise the ECU wouldn't be able to fold/unfold the mirrors when I push the button, yet they disabled the AUTO function. Because of this, you can't tap into the mirror fold button because the single wire that that sends the signal also controls a bunch of other stuff. There may be a way to completely bypass the mirror switch by going custom wiring and an aftermarket switch. I'll look more into that if the ECU can't be changed.

Dumb question but how did you find out what the EU part numbers were and or where did you go to get that information?

I'm trying to start piecing stuff together for my CT200h power folding mirrors and there is a plethora of part numbers for mirrors, and I don't have a clue what is JDM/EU/Korean spec... I want to find LHD mirror bases and as of right now with Amayama it's not telling me what spec it is. Just simply giving a part number. Wondering how anyone figures this information out.

I know this is an older thread, but it doesn't seem like people do these types of mods anymore which is a shame. I'd like to be able to figure something out and add it to the CT. My RCF I was successfully able to add power folding mirrors with the help of someone but the part numbers from Lexus are always a trippy part...

Thanks,
-Nigel

This thread might help:
https://www.reddit.com/r/Lexus3ISinf...k_in_progress/

Summary:
  • JDM motor (to fold in/out)
  • OEM mirror glass (JDM will fit but it's yellowish)
  • OEM mirror housing (JDM will fit but the angle will be off)
  • EDM mirror switch (USDM switch (RX350) can work if you have memory seats, since memory seats utilize the auto fold button)

Appreciate the reply! This actually kinda helps me with my CT. So you swapped the JDM motors and put them in your OEM housing? I'm slightly confused. My CT has the same type of mirror body housing. I bought GS mirror housings to replace what I have because the inner trim is gloss black and the bottom is gloss black compared to the CT's matte. However, the JDM housings did not fit on my bases because the actuator arm is at a different angle. So I had to rebuy them with US spec LHD for them to bolt up.

I actually liked the EDM mirrors because they have the blind spot part of the glass where the USA doesn't have this. I actually kinda dig the yellowish tint on the glass as well.

I love that you de-pinned everything! That's smart and I will do the same. Just label and take pictures of everything so there is no confusion.

When you took the JDM mirror apart you then mounted the motor onto your STOCK EDM mirror bases that mount on the door? I didn't those that lined up? I found another IS post somewhere and he stated that the motors/bases were completely different and would not swap over.
Curious on that specifically as that was my dilemma trying to source EDM LHD bases so I could avoid that. But if the motors mount up then I have no issues taking EVERYTHING apart... that way I KEEP my painted bases.

My mirror switch is different from yours. Your's looks like what I have in my RCF. I'm hoping wiring is going to be slightly easier/different since I'm using the older style mirror control switch that is found on most older Toyotas/Lexus.

Thanks so far for the information you dropped!
