3IS: DIY Power Folding Mirrors
My method is standalone and doesn't touch your multiplex.
If you fry your multiplex by thinking these mirrors are plug and play, that's too bad!
This is not a "Honda" way, this is actually my way of doing it.
Honda/Acura uses the same method as Toyota/Lexus if you were to use the OEM switch.
With that said, enjoy this DIY!
Special thanks to we1rdoo for hooking me up with a set of JDM mirrors! If not for him, this would have never happened.
Notes:
- I'll update the and clean up the thread as I go
- Car: 2017 IS200T Base Canadian Model (only has heated mirrors)
- This method is used with a standalone switch (not the OEM switch)
How it works:
- Mirrors can be folded in whenever the car is on (or on accessory)
- When you start the car, the mirrors will automatically fold out, if the switch is on
- When you start the car, the mirrors will stay folded in, if the switch is off
- If the car is off, the mirrors will be folded in (not possible to fold them out without putting the car in accessory)
To start, you'll need the following, all prices are rounded up and in CDN dollars:
- JDM 3IS mirrors ($500 packed, shipped and duties)
- Color doesn't matter since you can reuse your current mirror housing and base
- 3 relays with harnesses ($40)
- 1 switch ($5)
2 rolls of wire (you can do it with one color, but it will get confusing), I chose red for power and black for negative (for the mirrors) ($25/per roll)- Quick release harness from Amazon (price will be added once I get the right gauge)
- Heat shrink $10
- To redo the wires on the mirrors
- Quick connect adapters ($10/each), you need 2
- You need this in case you ever remove the mirrors, you can disconnect the power folding function
Here's the diagram that I'm using:

JDM mirror features:
- Auto Dimming*
- Memory Feature / Auto Tilt*
- Heat
- Power Folding
- Electric (up/down/left/right)
* = My car does not have those features, so I won't be getting that to work.
JDM passenger mirror (USDM driver side) completely taken apart.
Note:
If you plan on your using your OEM mirror glass, you don't need to take the whole JDM mirror part, just enough to get the motor out.
Also de-pin the wires, it's very easy to do and it will save you tons of time.

- Test the power folding mirrors to make sure the feature works
- You can do so by connecting these 2 wires to a 9V battery
- If nothing happens, invert the wires (power folding works with reverse polarity) and the mirrors should fold out/in depending on how they arrived
- You can do so by connecting these 2 wires to a 9V battery
Here's what should happen when you're testing it:
If you plan on using the JDM mirror and don't want to use the auto-dimming, simply unplug the harness and cover it to ensure water doesn't get in there.

- Mirror movement (up/down/left/right)
- Auto dim (not confirmed)
- Memory/auto tilt when in reverse (not confirmed)

- Flasher
- Puddle Light
- + Power Folding
Most electronic shops should carry car relays, if you're not sure on whether or not the relay is for a car, sometimes they are marked (if not, ask someone in the store to help you out).
- These are the specs that we'll be using for ALL THREE RELAYS
- Look for relays with: 30, 85, 86, 87 & 87a marked on them
- Relay harnesses (you'll need 3), make sure you get the ones that correspond to the relays that you picked up
- Simple toggle switch (2 pin) for on/off, you can add one with a light feature, but that's up to you
- Rolls of wire, has to be long enough to go from the mirrors to wherever you decide to put the 3 relays, in my case:
- Driver door to under the steering wheel
- Passenger door to under the steering wheel

Once you have the motor off on the JDM mirror, you'll need to get this part off your OEM mirror.
The JDM motor is a direct fit into your OEM housing (use the same 4 screws: 3 underneath and 1 on the front)

Your OEM housing, will NOT fit the JDM one since the black part on housings are different.

When you're connecting all your wires back, you should have 2 new ones now (the green and blue wire) for the power folding mirror function.
I've added a quick connector for the power folding mirror function, so when you're done with the passenger mirror, it should look like this.
To avoid a hack job, I strongly suggest de-pinning the wires (mentioned earlier as well)

This is what I met at the beginning by not interfering with your multiplex.

Remember, if nothing happens when you connect it to the 9V battery, switch the wires around. (i.e.: if the Green is on + and Blue is on -, then put the Green on - and the Blue on +)
Also, make sure your 9V battery isn't dead before you go into panic.
Additional tests:
up/down/left/right
heated
and whichever other feature your car has, keep in mind that it should all work, unless you didn't pin the wire back in the right spot (hence why I said take plenty of photos).
Passenger side, done!
Don't put your door panel back on just yet, you still have to run the wire from the door to inside the car.
