Default Coolant Leak

Just noticed a bit of dried pink residue around the exterior of the radiator cap, so it appears that coolant is leaking. Is this normal?

coolant level is good.

If it’s around the cap it could be the cap is failing. Replacing it with a new one should fix that issue.

theres an open end to one of the hoses attached to the cap. is this for overflow?

I’m not entirely sure maybe someone else can chime in on that, but it definitely looks like a cap failure.

That’s a little weird that the tube is open ended it may be for ventilation tbh. You’re not going to leave a coolant overflow tube open ended into the engine bay like that haha it would blow my mind if Toyota/Lexus did that.

Yeah I was surprised to see the overflow tube lead out right there. Mines the same and has had a little come out too as seen there.

The cap however should not have that residue around it as that is a bad seal. You could try cleaning it and tightening it down but probably needs to be replaced. .

most of the Lexus lineup have a reservoir overflow tube that drains to the ground when reservoir become too full. This is normal.

Being an overflow tank, the cap just snaps into place. You could just clean it, like others have said, it doesn’t pose a problem. If it were the metal radiator cap, I’d be leaning towards replacing as a sign of failure.

Noticed this on my 2014 F250 when i had it. Never made a big deal about it, thought it was normal.

However, my 2018 F300t doesn't seem to have this issue. Engine bay just as clean since showroom

It's normal. The tube is open so if the system overheats it spills out in the direction of the ground.
The pink crustys, as I like to call it, if fine. Imagine the coolant if almost half water...water evaporates...guess what happens with the coolant molecules that are stuck to the water molecules...pink crustys

I’m just surprised Lexus wouldn’t make it so that it drains somewhere besides the engine bay.

It's done intentionally. Imagine if it drained out somewhere under the car...then you'd never see the steam to know the vehicle is overheating...and you'd keep driving, and driving, and driving until the motor seizes.
By overflowing it into the engine bay you'll see the steam come out the hood, and hopefully pull over at that point before any major damage is done.
You don't even know how many people don't look at the dash gauges.

It’s hard to imagine someone not noticing their car is overheating but I guess that’s true not everyone takes care of their car. Still, personally I would have preferred they made it drain somewhere else. Hopefully I never encounter coolant draining into my engine bay.

I'd like to think it's those same people that don't use turn signals when they change lanes, turn corners, etc. They're just too good for dash gauges and turn signals
