I've had a new loaner ES350 while my IS is getting it's A/C fixed. And was wondering if any other IS owners had the same engine ticking noise? It didn't seem that noticeable till I got the ES. And is super quiet.

 

Does it sound like this? If yes, be happy, you have a healthy ticker.

 

if it sounds like that video, which it will be quite loud at times... its your direct injection fuel pump... its a mechanical pump driven off the cam on the passenger side of you valve cover

 

When I get it back I will run the engine with the hood open.

 

The ES350 idles quieter because it does not have direct injection. It's the injectors that make the ticking noise.

 

Yes, I completely understand about the ticking noise in the IS. Like he said its the direct injection'. I drove the IS2010 thru the 2015 model and they all had it. Like when I race it down the street and then lift the hood, the ticking is like crazy loud. Its normal and shows you have a good ticker as stated earlier. Still luv my IS no matter what people say about it. I remember my first car was a 2008 KIA, people would say it sounded like a toilet flushing down the street. Atleasr they can't say that about my Beast IS

 

Anyone else starting to think dealers should just tell customers about the direct injection sound? This question gets asked quite a lot.

 

When I bought the car I was close to the railroad tracks in Riverside California. Plus I normally listen to the radio kinda loud. But I was running this ES to drop off some packages. And honestly you couldn't tell it was running.
