a photo of the finished look looks like any other IS that has a shark antenna on top of the rear portion of the roof.
no kidding since I own one, but when the title of the thread is "Super quick DIY Shark fin antenna removal", I'd want to see what it actually looks WITHOUT one.

i deleted my comment as you can very well see because i read the title of the thread incorrectly. don't get your panties in a bunch.
I don't have a photo of the antenna removed, but what's left is a rectangular opening in the roof about 1 inch by 3/4 inch. The long side of the opening is parallel to the side of the car.
When you buy a new antenna cover from the dealer ($32 Canadian), you get a new bolt, gasket, and retainer for the antenna base.
I reused all the old stuff...the retainer is nothing special, it goes on before the bolt. You'll see it right away once you take the antenna off.
Hell yes. The bolt is actually not bad if you use the trim tool in the center of the ratcheting wrench to guide it and push it up.
The connector is more challenging.
I couldn't push the metal tab in the rear dome light... how hard are you supposed to push it towards back????
The metal tabs just lock the light into the headliner, so they are not too tight.
The key is to release one and sorta pull slightly down on the light so the tab doesn't lock back in...then release the other one along the same edge and that whole side of the light should pop down.
The metal tabs are made of a spring like metal...so they are always pushing outwards to hold the light in place.

Yea and I feel like I sorta bent the spring like metal and it's loosen up a bit
I guess once I pull it out, I could but I can't seem to take it out as the metal is holding onto something. I tried pushing upward, up and then toward back, and toward back.. it just won't get out. I will give it another try later.
