Default Help with the sat nav system

The rotary wheel controlled sat nav in my is300h hybrid is driving me nuts. When I try to set a destination, after I enter four or five letters the system offers me a number of alternative destinations. Usually none of them is the destination I want. I have found how to erase letters but when I try to re-enter the destination the same thing happens again after I enter four or five letters. It just will not stop giving me alternatives which I do not want.

When I do succeed in setting a destination, the screen switches to a map showing the location but I cannot find how to switch from this to the route map for the journey.

Finally, I find the rotary control extremely difficult to manipulate. For example, when a map is displayed I often get a situation where I cannot get off it. When I rotate the control or move it up/down or sideways I still remain on the map. It either moves the position on the map, or zooms in or out, but I am still stuck on the map.

Can anyone help?

Wrong forum, mate! We get a joystick, not a rotary dial in the RX.
Could it be that you're right-handed and using your left hand to control the sat-nav is not your cup of tea?

There is a "back" button in the upper right corner - it gets you to where you came from.
Also when you press the Menu/Nav - it resets you back to the route map.
What confuses me is that you talk about the rotary dial, I also have the 3-rd generation IS (non-hybrid) and I have joystick.

I'm going to go out on a limb here, and guess OP does not have a factory navigation. Lexus uses rotary dial for non-nav units.
There's likely an aftermarket unit behind scenes that ties into the video input and the rotary **** inputs.

That seems to be true, I looked in my manual and Lexus calls it "audio selection" dial.
Aftermarket nav unit in a Lexus? I wonder if this is even doable. Who knows what this fellow has in his IS, it's a mystery, but he simply abandoned this thread.

Although not a picture of an IS, it seems Lexus uses the rotary dials in Euro spec cars. Does it make sense, nope. But what does anymore lol.

OP: Those of us in the US can't really help since we don't have experience with this dial controlling thE nav system. Hopefully someone with a Euro spec Lexus can chime in.

Don't think so... this is from IE Lexus IS300h site:

I've been in an IS250 with a rotary dial - it had no nav, just the LCD and a video input.

That image is from the newer gen systems. I'm just showing that there are discrepancies with what controller can be optioned with what packages over in Europe. Most of the pics you see when you search have the nav paired with the remote touch controller, but there are a few pics that show the rotary controller paired with nav.

A similar instance is shown with the 4GS. In the US, the nav comes paired with the 12in screen. Elsewhere in the world, you can only purchase the GS with the 8in screen, which can be optioned with nav though. Like I said, it all doesn't make sense!

Perhaps the Euro models have a Scout GPS equivalent.

I have read that in Europe Lexus equipped their CT with TomTom's Move-On navigation, again only in Europe and only the CT model. I am not sure if it applies to the latest CT models however, the agreement between TomTom and Lexus was signed in 2002. So indeed in Europe they can do things differently.

Default Help with sat nav system

Many thanks for the replies. I do live in Europe, Ireland in fact, and the sat nav in my 2014 is300h unfortunately uses the rotary wheel control. It seems I will have struggle on with it. Again, my thanks to those of you who have taken the trouble to reply.

Here's a little tip I picked up from your country:
Amazon Amazon

Put a ball of it on the OEM nav and stick your cell phone smack on top of it.
Google maps are brilliant. Live traffic - even better.

You're lucky you don't have the same Nav we get - it is rather horrible. Last thing I'd want to rely on while driving in Ireland.
2D graphics and a steady flow of roundabouts are not a great mix.
