just wondering how many dropped the oil in the first thousand or so miles.

please do not start a debate whether it's a good idea or not to do so. Just chime in if you hanged your oil within the first 1,000 or so miles of owning your car.

thanks

Nope. It's been a long time since I've done that.

Not necessary unless you only drive 1500 miles in 12 months, but if it makes you feel better then do it. The IS runs synthetic oil, which is fine for 10K miles/12 months.

Nope. I have been changing it every 5-6k$ miles with full synthetic. Heard you could go 10k with running full synthetic but it gives me a piece of mind when i do it every 5k miles

I changed the oil first time at 5000 KM or 3 K miles in the dealer ship (labor free of charge). After that the I changed the oil every 6 K miles.

dealer recommends 10k oil change on the synthetic oil. ide wait till then or a little bit before if your rough on the vehicle.

Nope - changed it when the car said maintenance was due.

I sold Acuras briefly in 1990 and I remember that advice would float around, but even back then the service department basically said, "that's no longer necessary".

I requested a 5k oil change and the dealership turned down my cash. They basically assured me the engine was virtually bulletproof and 10k was fine regardless of driving habit

Weird, seems like they'd take your money if you really wanted the oil change. I am going to inquire about oil change for my 5k service and will see what they say. I was planning to take a bit of a road trip after the first service and would feel better about it with fresh oil.

Yeah. I was surprised. The service manager was very straightforward with me and said he's never seen any issues with the 3.5L engine. He said i was wasting money by doing it at the 5k mark.
