What was the door on the bottom below the climate control and cd player. Is that a SD card slot that I saw on some You Tube Review. I was distracted at that point but didn't go back to it. i thought I heard the reviewer mention DVD NAV. I'm not sure. Is there a hard drive to download music too?

That's the SD card for the navigation/maps.

There is no hard drive for storing music.

There is no door there, it is Mark Levinson logo plate which may look to someone as a 'door'. I suggest you download user manual (free) for the multimedia/NAV system - it is all there.

There's a door there to access the SD card.

They use SD cards for nav/maps? That seems more archaic than the DVD disc that was in my 06 SC 430.
My BMW & MB use Hard Drives.

Why are you repeating questions that had been already answered?. Look at #319.

The benefit of using an SD card over a hard drive for maps is that you do not have to take it to the dealer to update. You can just order the SD card from lexusnavigation.com and do it yourself, without involving the dealer.

I believe Mercedes has switched over to SD cards, at least in the new C Class. Not sure about BMW.

I'm so envious of the bigger screen.
Why didn't Lexus do this in the first place!!?
Wonder if it's possible to do a screen upgrade.

Love the refresh but wasn't enough to make me wait until fall for it to come out. The bigger navi screen would've been great but I'm completely happy with my 2016 IS350.

Lexus used hard drive in the previous generation (2012-2015) navigation. solid state memory storage is not archaic, magnetic media spinning in an enclosure is. DVD storage is even more so, as most mainstream tech companies have moved away from optical unless for retail movies and games distribution.

That's archaic indeed. Not only it has movable parts and has much worse read/write parameters, it occupies so much more space.

Isn't it quicker than an SD card?
