Default 5K Maintenance

Noticed the gauge display above the sterring wheel indicates that maintenance is soon required each time i start the car.

Car is almost at 5K miles.

I thought the service interval (oil change, filter, etc) is every 10K for the 3IS?

There is a 5K and a 10K service. Both should be free.

I'll be at 5k in two or three weeks. How long does the service usually take?

My 5k took under an hour. It's nothing more than an inspection, checking/topping off fluids, checking tire pressure, etc. and a wash (if you allow it).

Has anyone decided to skip their 5K service? It sounds like a waste ot time to me. I perform my own fluid checks and reset the tire pressure every 3-4 weeks. I also won't allow anyone to wash the car except me. My dealer will take care of any custom programming at the 5K service at no charge but I'm happy with the factory defaults.

It's just a general inspection. Yes, oil is every 10K miles.

Honestly, after my first two free services, I'm only going to take it to the dealer every 15K since those are the "major" services.

Wheel rotation, oil, etc. I can find a much cheaper alternative.

That's my plan too. Get the freebies from the dealer and after that I'm only taking it to my mechanic but every 10k instead of 15k.
