Default Release gas or not while shifting

What's the best way to be faster when you shifting using pedal shift or stick shift on automatic transmission? Release the gas pedal before shifting and then hit the gas pedal again (just like driving manual), or keep flooring the gas pedal while shifting?

Does not need to release gas. Just like automatic, but you decide when to shift.

When upshifting, keep pressing gas. When downshifting, if you want smoothest fastest downshifts, let go off gas (otherwise there is a slight jerk as it gets confused on the rev matching...)

lol, I let go of the gas when I downshift to avoid jerking my neck. I have no issues when I upshift

When I downshift on Manual mode, I usually jerk forward instead backwards. That's with gas being released. The jerk motion is more intense when I downshift on Automatic mode.

Downshifting in auto mode does not rev match (and feels like crap). In manual it actually blips the throttle. Forward jerk is normal, that just means the engine rpm is slightly faster, happens while you're breaking at the same time. The car just doesn't know what exact rpm to match the speed with since you're slowing down as well.

But I noticed a significant "jump" when I release gas, shift, then press the gas again. It feels faster.

Of course... because you're slowing down when releasing the gas and accelerating when you're back on the pedal. You're definitely not going faster though, no matter what yours pants-o-meter is telling you.

Its an automatic.
You don't need to left of the gas like the true semi auto.

Since I read this thread I've been downshifting with the gas released... much more comfortable. Didn't notice the jerk before!

Funny thing is, this is the only car I've ever driven that downshifts smoother if you release the gas. Cars like CTS, bmw, etc all downshift just fine with the gas engaged.
