Very great idea. I was looking for something similar but wanted to integrated into the OEM nav...Looks like there currently is no way to do that though :/

Seems like a lot of trouble to add camera. There is a product called Curb Alert (~$135.00). You can install it yourself. Works by IR. set it to "see" curb, wall, etc..., small speaker in car that lets out 3 beeps when you get around 8" from curb. Bought it on Amazon. It works!

 

I had the curb alert on a previous car. Although it works, a few things that i didn't like about it that there are no warning signals as you get closer to an object and most of all, it would go off at random times even when going over speed bumps or driving up a steep driveway.

 

I have front camera I hooked it up to AV port in console and then installed DVD override so you can see the camera image without parking brake engaged.

I had curb alert previously but it goes off while I'm driving for no reason. It didn't seem that reliable.
