But with the dvds you have to have your emergency break engaged then the video will show on the screen Also just make sure you select disc out of your media source. Hope it works!
Are you trying to listen to text messages on your navigation unit?
Not listen to them, no, according to the manual incoming texts and emails should be displayed on the screen much like an incoming call. However the menu to set that up appears to be missing. I've linked it below for those who may not have the whole manual handy.
I didn't have to set anything special up to receive text messages on my navi screen. All I did was pair my phone to the Bluetooth, then when I get a text, the notice shows up on the screen. I can either read or disregard at that point. Nothing other than pairing needs to be done.

With me I hear the text alert through the speakers, but nothing on the screen. Incoming calls work fine, so I thought I'd go check the settings that support the text feature except the menu pictured is not present? What type of phone do you have?
OK so at least now I know it's not a misprint, or a menu cribbed from another model... So for those of you that have it, what type of phones are you using?
Strange, neither my wife or I needed to set up anything to get the message to show, or the car to read it aloud. I am using iphone with ios7 and my wife has Samsung S4

The default settings in the car are set up to do this for you. The only setup I had to do was to ensure the settings on my phone supported it. Once I did that, it worked.
I am using an iPhone 5, but that has no impact on this screen or the settings in that particular menu.
Is your dealer near you? If so, don't hesitate to use them as a resource. There have been some issues with my setup and any time I have had a problem or question, I just drop in and their tech specialist will sit down with me, and we'll work through the issue and get it resolved. (Special nod to Lexus of Seattle, you guys rock)
My messaging and email used to pop up, but ever since I upgraded from android 4.2.2 to 4.3, the messaging and email stopped integrating. I have HTC one phone. Anyone else have similar observation?

Not sure if this helps, but the tech specialist at my dealer said that it's best to un-pair then re-pair your phone anytime you have an OS upgrade. The iOS upgrades on my iPhone would knock out one or two functions, that I wouldn't notice right away. Then I'd re-pair my phone and it would work again. Worth a shot, at least.

Thanks, I actually just figured it out. I've tried pairing and unpairing, and that didn't make a difference. I checked under advanced options under Bluetooth. I noticed that only the Message Access Profile was turned on, but not the File Transfer Profile. I turned on FTP, and my messaging works now.
This is regarding page 327 in the 2014 Lexus IS manual. Chapter 5-10 Phonebook.
Under Messaging settings...
Does anyone out there have this menu? I looked on my car today and I don't have it, and I can't seem to find it? I have an IS 350 with Mark Lev.
Also, there were some reports of being able to play back DVDs on here, but when I put in a DVD, I hear the audio, but have no video?
Thoughts?
For the iPhone...
Go to Settings.
Then Bluetooth.
Next to 'LEXUS IS', there's a blue 'i'. Click it.
Turn on 'Show Notifications'
For Androids....
It asks to enable MAP (messaging access profile) when you initial set up the phone to the vehicle. If you didn't do this the first time. Remove the phone, and add it again. Just pay special attention for pop ups on the phone while pairing.
That's it. Be sure to do this before getting into the vehicle, otherwise you will have to turn the car off then back on. Hope this helps.
