Buy now or wait
SO I HAVE A 2010 ES 350 AND I WANT TO TRADE IT IN FOR THE NEW 2014 IS350 AWD F SPORT. MY ISSUE IS THAT I AM READING WHAT OTHER PEOPLE ARE WRITING AND I AM WONDERING IF I AM SUPPOSED TO WAIT FOR THE NEW ENGINE THAT MAY COME FOR THE 2015 MODEL.
ANY ADVICE ABOUT THIS WOULD BE WELCOME. i AM NOT GOING TO RACE IT. HOW MUCH BETTER SHOUD THE MPG BE FOR THE NEW ENGINE THAT LEXUS IS TALKING ABOUT?

Since they are carrying over the 3.5L to the brand new RC, I wouldn't bet on a new engine for a few more years. You must keep in mind, developing a new engine (at least a toyota engine) can cost a billion dollars sometimes. They are going to milk that 3.5L engine as long as they absolutely can before they introduce a new one. This new V6, if they follow the same path as the last engine change, will be put into every ES, RX, IS, GS, Camry, Avalon, and others. I think the next set of Government mandated fuel economy numbers must be reached by 2017, so i would bet that's when they will unveil some new engines with better MPG's

If you are willing to lease, I would do that for a couple of years. By the time the lease is up, something new might be out and Lexus would be more willing to work a better deal to buy new, since you leased. Just an idea.

My point is that there will always be a better car in the future. If one just keeps waiting for the next great thing, he or she would never be able to enjoy anything at this moment.

The pursuit of F
To the OP, the 3.5L will remain as others have stated based on the RC. The 2.0 Turbo four may come, but I doubt it since we would have heard by now the trademark from Lexus for an IS 200t much like was done for the upcoming 2015 NX which is the only one confirmed as of now to have the new turbo four.
Although we can guesstimate the new four (240-260 hp) will be almost as quick with better fuel economy as the 3.5L, it will never have the same deep and smooth burly tone as the 3.5L. All things considered, if you're hanging on to the hope of a new engine in a few months, the chances are extremely low so feed into your itch and get the current 350. Good luck!

If you are able to wait then wait... New engine for IS350 may not come next year but with your current car it shouldn't be any problem waiting for that if that is what you want.

This is the worst time to buy.. It's after the end of the year, dealers are not stressed to meet up their sales, slim chances you'll get a good price. Unless you are willing to pay the full price.
If you wait until the new model is realease two things can happen:
A) No new engine this year but you'll get a great price on 2014 models as they will be a year old - WIN
B) New Engine came on, you'll still pay the full price as you'll pay now but you'll have a new efficient engine - WIN
So i'll wait.

I actually jumped on the '14 (IS350) because the engine and transmission are both good proven units. I care more about that than the efficiency. That being said, the 3.5 is pretty damn thirsty.
