This has happened three times now on my 2023 IS350. After hours of sitting, start up car, put it in reverse, but it stays stuck in park. The gear shifter is in R, the display on the dash says R, but the "Park" light remains on in the dash. It feels like the parking brake is stuck on, but the engine just revs and the car doesn't move at all. Putting it back in Park, back to Reverse, doesn't help. Have to shut off engine and start over to get it to work. Any known problem here? This is on flat ground, inside a garage or outside.
I had this issue happen to me recently. I had to basically disengage the parking brake manually using the switch on the dash. Does this happen regularly?

It's happened three to four times since new. Once in the garage, the other times outside in a parking lot. I forgot about the switch on the dash. That or shutting off car usually clears it. Just thought maybe it was a more known thing others have tackled, since I plan to bring it up at my next service.
Question though. If it was all caused by the parking brake not releasing, wouldn't the car still have the ability to move when giving it gas? At least on older cars with a manual parking brake, you can still drive the car with it on.

I am not sure about that, and I am not itching to find out.
Did the gauge cluster show a message like "Parking brake on"? I think mine did that at the time.

Yes, it showed "PARK" lit up at the lower left of the gauge cluster. I took a video of it on, while the gear shifter was in R. But that pretty much just shows what we've been talking about. I'm a bit surprised no one else is saying it's happened to them. Seems like an easy glitch for the car to commit, thinking the parking brake is still on when it's not.
This has happened to me three more times since I last replied to this thread, including today. I was able to resolve it every time by shifting back into park before trying again. Hmm...

Strange. I assume you plan on bringing it in for attention? Of course, share with us what they say or find...

Yes, I have an oil change coming up in a couple months (as always...) and will have them look at it then. It seems like I can work around this either by not using the parking brake anymore or just doing the P - R - P dance every time for now.
Granted, this isn't every time I drive the car anyway.
