Default Help with Code Issue, possible dealer scam?

Hi,

I just took my 2018 lexus into a dealership 3 weeks ago, where they did the 40K maintenance and brakes.
I barely drive it.
Then suddenly today, the car won't start. No lights on display panel. Battery checked out fine, then towed it to same dealer.
They said it's throwing a U0100 code and will take $750 to diagnose it....
Do you think the technician did something wrong last time or did they possibly sabotage my car so I'd have to bring it in again and charge me $$$ ??

I actually have a friend who had a similar code on his 2023 IS 500 recently(U0101). The only thing he did to it was to get tint installed. I don't know if he has solved the issue yet though.

$750 diag fee seems kinda crazy. Does anyone know if that's a standard rate?

I know, and they said that is just to diagnose it. I am never going back to that dealer after this ordeal....

If not the dealer you’d want a good shop to figure out the issue.

OP had U0100 which is different from what your screenshot is showing. Most likely it's a similar cause, though.

Why would it take $750 to diagnose? Thats the first question I would ask them. For diag if it's not under Warr it is 1 hour of Initial diagnose with labor rate usually around $200 or so. Labor rate also highly depends on the dealership and state. Some may be higher and some lower.

Not a scam if it takes them several hours and they charge an arm and a leg for labor. I haven't been to a dealer in a while but sometime between Covid and now, I know an expensive Audi dealership was charging $100/hour. I guess rates have gone up

$100 an hour labor would be a steal. usually a dealer only charges 1 hour diag first, then go from there. dealers usually dont throw multiple hours of diag at you before they even look at the car, unless they have no idea what they are doing

Call around and ask a non-dealer shop to diagnose it and ask for some pricing. Lexus dealers are overpriced on service.

Also...I would double check the battery connection. Maybe it was bumped when they did service.
