I have a 2016 is300 f sport, mechanic states catalytic converters need to be changed. He quoted me around $4000.
Does anyone have any experience with this? What is the part number for the catalytic converter? He said both of them need to be changed.
any help would be greatly appreciated!
How many miles on the vehicle?
what are the symptoms for such diagnosis? Are they clogged?
Does your vehicle have a v6 or i4 turbo engine ?
You would be wise to get a professional second opinion before going forward with repairs.

The car has almost 102k miles. The acceleration was really hesitant and there was a smell when accelerating. It is a v6 engine. The mechanic took the car for a drive, states the cats have gone bad, hence the lagging and the smell. However, there is no codes or check engine light
Look up on YT how to do a spray in and pour in tank upper intake cleaning.
Unless it's the secondary Cats. I don't really know this cars exhaust set up that well but, on most Lexus V6 the secondary cats there don't have sensors. Which Cats are they saying have gone bad? The ones off the Exhaust manifolds, or the secondary ones? If it's the 1st set then they would code. The 2nd ones will not.
I also have a 2016 IS300 V6, except I got rid of the 2ndary cats. have you trieed running an OBD2 scan? no way do cats cost 4000$ unless he's gonna replace the headers and downpipe which have the primary cats
Does PPE make a catted header for your car? Those with installation though an indy shop would certainly be cheaper and you'll have better performance. At the bare minimum, get a set of high flow carts and have an exhaust shop cut out the old ones and weld in the new ones, even that wont cost $4k.

Spoke to the mechanic again. He said, cats at bank 1 and bank 2 need to be replaced. Cat all the way at the end is fine and doesn’t need replacement. He said it is necessary to put Lexus parts only or else check engine light comes up and stays. He does not recommend any after market cats.
is this true? I tried doing a quick google search and cats from Lexus with exhaust manifold are around $1200 each.
Any help is greatly appreciated
Someone suggested maybe it’s the shell plus gas I use. I am going to try switching to BP and using a cat cleaner before I purchase the parts.
The symptoms are lining up though: gas mileage I get 230-250 miles per tank, sluggish acceleration, the smell when I push the car.
I am really hoping the car cleaners give me some time before I have to change the parts.

Shell 93 is good fuel, Sunoco also.
How old are the spark plugs ?
This cars with the V6 are very thirsty, I get 21-22mpg, 40 miles on the highway every day, some around town driving. I’m gentle on the gas pedal on take off and always on economy mode.
As far as fuel economy goes, I just went through my first full tank and averaged 21.7, but am breaking in the motor still and not really getting on it yet. No highway miles, all countryside driving.
Spark plugs replaced and throttle body was cleaned last year. Currently I am getting 13mpg without pushing the car. My RPM barely ever goes more than 4. Do you recommend recharging the spark plugs and seeing if it makes a difference. Oil change is not due for another 1500 miles. I do regular oil change every 5000miles
I would probably try cleaning chemicals for catalytic converters before dropping all the coin. And look for a second hand low mile exhaust if replacing. There are people out there removing their original exhaust system looking for additional performance. They normally throw the stuff for sale on Facebook marketplace, Craigslist or eBay. There are junkyards advertising parts on eBay, message them and ask about the exhaust. You might be able to install an exhaust manifold from v6 is300-350 all the way to 2024. My understanding is that the gen3 is has essentially remained the same mechanically. So look for components from a newer vehicle in order to get a low mile take off part. I bet you can save 50% on the parts.
Also replace the pcv, it is cheap and neglected by mechanics.
