I have a 2024 IS500, on my Monroney label it stated wireless but it's only wired. Lexus sent me an apology kit in the mail with the quick charge cable package for the error.
I recently purchased the 2024 IS350 and enjoy the auto. However, I was also disappointed in
discovering that it does NOT have wireless car play. Yes, a cable connection is required. Strange
in that my 2018 Subaru is wireless car play and is quite nice!
Particularly strange is all the phone contacts do appear on screen and the Iphone (Iphone SE)
in may case links to the car via Bluetooth as soon as you enter the car and select phone. No
cable connection required. However, all other Iphone features such as maps do not appear and the
cable connection is required.
All that said.... what plug n' play wireless module is recommended for this series auto?
I bought one from Amazon. Cost seemed high, at the time. $100. Not sure it's available anymore. It works fine. However, it will only work with one of the USB ports in the armrest. Weird.
In reading the manual, I get the sense that one USB port has the ability to support higher current than the other. One port is able to charge
the phone possibly while the second port supports the actual phone operation. So, it comes as no surprise, these 2 USB ports are NOT
identical and one of the ports may not be able to support the current demands while a phone is on operation.
Thanks jtrue28. Agree, the reviews are a trip down HORROR lane!
I think I will stick to the cable for the time being. However, I may try to come up
with a lighting port adapter that makes it almost trivial to plug
the phone into the USB port and take the stress off the iphone port.
Really a shame that Lexus could not roll wireless car play into this model.
I purchased a 2024 IS 350 F Sport in March. Confirming what others have stated, Apple CarPlay is not wireless. Checked my sticker. It just states Apple CarPlay(R) Integration. No mention of wireless. Although iTunes runs wireless.
It’s funny because X3 BMW owners get so flustered that wireless car play doesn’t work and it won’t stay connected etc..many post why can’t BMW just offer wired and wireless? But they took wired away back in 2018 on the X3.
Wireless yes is more convenient but there will be many many problems surface from Lexus owners, too many phones on the market for Lexus to make perfect integration for wireless which is probably why it’s still wired.
In addition, you will always get better sound with a wired connection in addition to it never dropping signal. If you’re a real audiophile, the CD player is the way to go. It was the reason it was left in the IS, it was to marriage the ML sound system to give you the best possible sound with those watts.
I personally would rather have wired. My issue is the old interface/nav basically unchanged for 10 yrs. The screen is too small and the track pad sucks. Touch screen is improvement but the old interface leaves a lot to be desired. My fear is when they update the interior it will look like the NX 14” screen which has too much piano black and no ability to split the screen to multitask. I hope it will be nicely integrated on the 2015/2016 IS but time will tell.
