My appointment to get my second key is tomorrow. You may want to check with your dealer. I got a notification a while back, but the key wasn't actually ready at that time. I never got another notification, but I was still able to call and schedule the appointment as the keys were "in stock" according to the parts department. (And yes, they were aware of the service campaign and that whole situation with the cars having only one smart key.)
When you bought your car, and no second key was included, a physical key "shank" was given to you, usually put in the glovebox or owners manual. After then, a letter was supposed to be mailed to you sometime this summer, about when to expect your second key remote.
There is a special service campaign for for these second keys, however those of you that don't have your second key, but still type in your vin to see if its applicable, will notice its not applicable.
Once your key fob is made, it is sent to a central parts warehouse, and your vin number is now added to the list for the special service campaign, and you are notified via first class mail that your car has a service campaign and to stop into ANY dealer to have it completed.
Once you arrive at the dealer, they plug your vin in and now it is applicable to the service campaign. After the paperwork is written up, your key fob is ordered from this central parts warehouse to the dealer your car is at. Once it arrives, it is programmed and you get a call letting you know the car is ready for pickup.
Additional keys have always been in stock at your local dealer, however you'd have to pay for these, since the 2nd key you paid for under your MSRP wasn't available yet.

Well, I didn't have to pay today. So I guess even if they didn't explain it the same way you did, mine was indeed ready.
yeah, if your app says service campaign available, then your key is ready. If it doesn’t say that, the key isn’t ready.
However, my app was showing the service campaign all the way back in late May or early June, shortly after I went to the dealer. I don't think anyone with a 2023 IS had a key then, at least not on these forums. Not that it matters; by now everyone should be eligible, or close to everyone.

Shoulda tried your luck, probably could’ve gotten it back then.
we’re still delivering new cars with 1 key only. A lot of people are still waiting unfortunately :/
I bought my IS350 in the beginning of January. The key was 'supposed ' to be mailed to me in March. Now they say do to the chip shortage I will get a letter in July with authorization to then give to my dealer and they will provide a key. I hate not having a spare. I heard that you can use a digikey from your phone on certain models. Are we part of that group, and how do we set it up? Thanks
I work for a certain semiconductor company that produces automotive chips, among other things. We stopped being at max capacity a while back, Lexus is just looking at cutting costs and using "chip shortage" as a justification.
Got an email from my salesman today saying that my key is in and he dropped it in the mail for me yesterday. Checked my mailbox and it is already here!
I asked what about getting it programmed and the response was, no need, it came from the factory already programmed for my car. Tested it and it did indeed work.
So that's about 2 weeks wait for me. Now I just need to get some cool key chains . Any ideas? I'm very particular about these things...

Weird. I was told I had to go to a dealer. Not that I mind. I would have been worried it got lost in the mail.

That's very odd! I'm happy that you got yours pre-programmed. I'm also jealous I had to go in to get mine programmed. 😁 I wonder what gives?

What? The keys have to be programmed to the immobilizer in your car, meaning the fob has to be placed within an inch of the start button to program it. None of the keys we have received have been pre programmed, they've all been blank.
I cant argue with you saying it works. If it works, it works, but man thats confusing.

Makes no sense to me either. I was previously told that car needs to be brought in for new key to be paired. My sales rep said that key is from factory. Not sure what that means exactly. But somehow it was already pre-paired. I was able to lock/unlock and start the car with new key.

you sure there’s not a credit card key in your owners manual booklet or something?

Car didn't come with a credit card key. But I did just try to lock/unlock and start without one of the remotes and it's a no go. Besides, pretty sure it won't let you lock the doors with key inside. It would beep like crazy.
I'll see if my sales rep would be willing to shed some light on this key situation as I'm kind of curious about that myself. Details aside, I'm happy to have a working second key only 2 weeks in.

They can always wipe a lost key from the car, no? Maybe its done via the connected apps suite? It seems to do a lot via remote connectivity to home base. Thats just speculation tho.
