Bolt-on Performance Build
Hey guys, I'm likely beating a dead horse here but I wanted to open a discussion around my planned build, both to collect feedback before I start and also to post results after completed.
I have a 2020 IS350 AWD. In a perfect world, my goal would be 350 crank horsepower. I also care about sound, shedding weight, and overall cost/performance ratio. Here is what I have in mind:
RR Racing Carbon intake tube with K&N filter, and potentially modding airbox to create a larger opening
Magnaflow high-flow cats
Remark axle-back exhaust (muffler delete)
RIPP High output coil packs
Performance spark plug wires (haven't sourced a set yet)
Brisk Premium LGS sparkplugs (bigger gap to take advantage of coil packs)
D3 Performance tune
93 Octane Fuel
Initial thoughts?
My only concern with this build is how the D3 tune might interact with different coils and plugs. Does anyone have experience with this?
I'm not sure if I wil have the chance to dyno it before the mods (going to try) but I will absolutely get it dyno'd at some point after. the D3 tuner has the ability to load custom tunes, so I may take it to a respectable shop with a dyno and see what they can do.
Cheers

If you’re going to spend 4 figures the very first mod IMO should be lightweight wheels and the fuel savings will partly finance the purchase
i put heavy 18s on a car that came with 16s once and almost cried when I drove away from the tire store it was so much slower

Looks like you'll be spending a bit on mods that barely create any power, specifically the coil packs, "wires" and plugs. Unless there is something wrong with the current ones, this is a waste of money for little to ZERO power gain. Muffler delete does nothing either, so really you just have the "intake" which is just a tube, the tune, and high flow cats, which will need to be welded in, but you could probably get headers for the cost of the cats and welding. See here: https://www.rr-racing.com/PPE-Racing...ppe935101a.htm
You will be lucky to gain an extra 25hp with those mods, but with headers and exhaust, you could definitely gain 40+.
I would definitely get some lightweight wheels and sticky tires, as that will improve your 0-60 drastically, guaranteed. As for the power, the tune is a good start, but if you really want the power you seek, you'll need a full exhaust, not some weld in cats and a muffler delete.

I’m happy to pay more if it’s going to be worth it.So assuming I get the headers, would it be a waste of time if I don’t change the rest of the exhaust as well? I do want to get rid of the stock mufflers regardless. I really liked the quad tips of the remark. Has anyone figured out what the best exhaust setup for power is?
As for light weight wheels that’s actually on my wishlist as well. Any recommendations on wheels that are significantly lighter than stock?
Thanks, cheers
So, cats I can get for about $500 and welding I can do myself. PPE headers are $2000 plus potentially paying for install. It’s a big price gap. I kind of thought most of the power gain from the headers would just be from the cat-delete. But, this is why I’m doing more research

FWIW, I am FBO (Tune + Headers + Catback) and if you are looking to be fast or track the car...my advice is sell your car and buy another car lol you will end up spending close to $5k just for full exhaust and tune to gain 40whp. In the end you still barely touch 300whp.
I do enjoy my car and knew I wasn't going to be fast but $5k goes a long way with other cars.....

If you know what your doing you can get 60hp plus for about $2000 - $2500. Most don't, so in that case they will spend $1k to 2K on a Catback alone. lol!
There is a documented 4.3sec 0-60 IS350 with Bolt's on and Tune right here on CL, Another just cut something like a 4.2sec recently on YT. There is a MR2 2GR motor performance shop that just Dyno'd a 2GR over 400hp n/a with No FI and he didn't have to spend $5k either.

and as the other commented stated, people are getting more power out of this engine. There are some good tuning shops a couple hours away from me I plan to visit eventually.
Are these not the headers? https://www.rr-racing.com/RR-Racing-...e935001ass.htm
not sure why the 2IS350 is being brought up here.

Do you have a link where we can find the MR2 2GR making 400hp? All I found was MR2 Turbos making 400hp.
They were just asking for clarification, and you made the easy mistake of ignoring their location being in Canada. No need for "bro", here. If someone comes in here asking for assistance, we should not be judgmental. We want to build a community and knowledge base that folks can use and feel included in.

No, I'm able to read "Alberta" and make the connection that he's from Canada, but what does that have to do with buying the correct parts for his vehicle? The 2020 IS is the same there as it is here...
It has to do with the dollar amount... obviously a Canadian dollar is worth somewhat less than a US dollar. Anyway, please read the link I sent before posting again. Thank you.
