Man. Did I **** up. It took me an hour to get the clip off. So I ended up cutting the plastic that holds it. Except one time the razor blade knife slipped and i cut 1/2 of the wire that clips into the solenoid.
i krimped it with butt connectors and it held. But it’s swimming in transmission oil. I got a mew check engine light p2759 - electrical.
how do I salvage this? Water proof soldering is my best idea. Is there any other solutions you guys can think of?
Solder will make the wire strands brittle and in the torrent of fluid flow could fail. You need good connection and crimp is fine.
I suggest you up you game and buy a real crimp tool and connectors. Notice the OEM is all crimped and is oil is not conductive per say. After your repair you should be able to give the joint an firm tug and it should not fail. Buy some heat shrink tubing with sealant inside, slide it on, crimp the connector, pull test, then slide the heat shrink over the splice.
Call it done.
As for stripped threads, where are they? On the pan rail or securing the valvebody. If the later, mistorquing the valve body, too little, too much, the wrong order can make valves hang up.
I'm not trying to be be mean but when bolts stop turning, it's a good idea to stop spinning them.
Look up timcert thread repair kits. Obviously it's metric and will cost you some but it's the best choice. And a torque wrench.
It’s the Pan. You’re not being mean. I got too confident and didn’t take my time. I did rent a torque wrench from auto zone and all the threads are set at 39 inch per square foot according to specs.
CoolCarBro, did your solenoid repairs work out? I have error codes P0746 (SL1) and P2714 (SLT). OEM transmission with 295K miles.
Car had been running great up until about 292K when trans started slipping when putting into drive from neutral or park. But, it had no codes, so wasn't sure what the problem was. I checked that ATF level was good; it was. I had changed the ATF filter at 155K and had completed three ATF flushes, the last at 220K. I went ahead and replaced ATF filter again, mainly to see if I had metallic shavings or clutch material in the pan. Nothing, pan and ATF filter looked very clean, a lot better than when I replaced the filter at 155K. I completed a drain/refill but trany still slipped. Then, car slipped really bad a couple weeks ago. I plugged my code reader and, finally, have some codes to go by. I have to decide if it is with fixing at this point. Where did you get your solenoids and how much were they?
