I hit 70k this morning, I haven't done anything except the Chevron Techron fuel injector cleaner since I bought her in 2019 and she runs like a champ. I was even ready to take on an a hole driving an M3 weaving in and out of traffic yesterday, but I thought 600 hp TT inline 6...nah

I don't have a tune on mine it's basically all stock, I just throw money at it for good maintenance and tires. I will check and clean that maf since it's been awhile and I will check the mesh filter as well.

It was the early 1970's the 1st time I heard my step-father proclaim . . ."Time to blow the carbon out" cracking a grin and pegging the accelerator to the firewall as he pointed our 1960 Ford onto the downhill stretch of Route 81 that allowed gravity to assist the V8's effort to break the sound barrier : )

My dad had a 1979 Buick Le Sabre with a 350 V8. It was a big boat with couches for seats with a ton of power. He always drove it gently, but when I got it, I wasn't so gentle . I must of de-treaded at least 2 sets of rear tires. Lots of Italian tunes, unfortunately I also bent a rod going to hard when the engine hadn't fully warmed up...

Mine tried to kill me once. Dad rejetted the Holley 650 Double Pumpers Secondaries on the built 302, in the process flipped a mechanical link over that once the secondaries opened, they wouldn't fully close. Mind you on that carb, it had larger secondaries than primaries, so sticking them open was like 1/2 throttle or more.
I find a hill to open it up on ~ 365 HP Ford 302 w a 4spd, Trak Loc into 3.75:1 gears (car had so many mods as did mine). Right after hitting the limiter in 2nd gear I bang 3rd only to remain at the limiter when I pushed the clutch in (until 3rd fully engaged) at which point the tail end broke loose as I enter a tight uphill corner. New problem turning the ignition off in haste could easily lock the steering, I pushed the clutch in, let it scream until out of the corner slowed under 80 let the clutch out to get to the top of the hill and turned it off. Clutch out to coast to side of the road and disconnect the secondaries.

It seemed like it all happened in seconds. I can't believe it didn't drop a valve or throw a rod. It lived a long life even after that day.

I gave him an ear full saying I'm your only son, was that intentional?? haha We had a lot of fun building our cars racing each other. Best day ever was lighting up 2nd gear next to his door as I passed him!

So, every day was Italian tune up day... haha!

Sounds like a lot of fun in your childhood. My dad was an Engineer from the mid 70's to mid 90's with one of the big defense contractors in SoCal, and had no interest in cars, but he did take us on fishing trips and camping trips every summer until I turned 17. My dad came to this country in 1958 and basically worked his butt off, was from a completely different culture and oblivious to how much trouble one could get into, but my mom being American knew so she was our main discipliner. Anyway my one big embarrassing automobile crash had nothing to do with tweaked carburetors or engine mods...it was 100 percent self inflicted LOL

Well the thing about those big pushrod engines is they don't rev very high (I think 4500 RPM was peak HP and 4600 RPM was redline) so Italian tunes were not as fun as with my VW GTi, which revved out to past 6500 RPM
