Default Vehicle Diag Interpretation Help

Hi all,

i have a 2006 is350 with 170k on the dial. recently it threw the tragic P0430 code for bank 2 inefficiency. I took it to an exhaust shop that said it was a minor exhaust leak and they repaired it and I was issue free for about 650ish miles and then it reappeared. Wanted to get an exact issue and fix for the codes so i took it to lexus and they basically said I need a new AF sensor, O2 sensor, catalytic converter, and gaskets. They emailed me the full diagnostics from the vehicle health check and just wanted to put it out to the community for feedback on if they are just throwing everything at it to ensure the problem doesn't return or it is more of a simple fix that they didn't want to take the time to isolate?

Thanks in advance.

What the dealer emailed you was the freeze frame data. That's a snapshot in time of the conditions that existed when the fault was detected - most likely during the catalyst efficiency test that runs just as the engine reaches operating temperature. It would be helpful to know if the condition still existed after the car had been driven a bit longer, as a typical cause of the P0430 is an exhaust leak that delays catalyst light-off.

Did the exhaust shop cut out and replace the corroded section of pipe, or did they just weld over the holes? If the latter, it is probably just leaking again.

the exhaust shop replaced the flange at the rear end of the midpipe and said it was leaking there. I have an appointment tomorrow to have them inspect the “corroded section” near bank 2 sensor 2 and see if they can find the leak and repair it.
