Default ECT Power Mode Trans Didnt Shift

I was testing out the ECT power mode today and I floored it in 2nd and the engine hit redline but didnt shift to 3rd, it just sputtered and bounced off the rev limiter. I had to back off the gas pedal and go back to normal mode.

Very alarming I hope no engine damage happened.

Whats going on why didnt it shift??!!

You have to remember it's just a gear limiter. You had it in 2nd gear only limiting the trans to 2 gears. If you want to test the ECT do it in regular mode. It's just going to hold gears longer. As for messing anything up I've bounced it off the limiter a few times. As I was not being careful to what gear I was in no problems to report.

ECU has to relearn your driving habits. Probably thought you turned it into a Toyota Tercel for driving it in normal mode for so long. I would disconnect the battery for a few minutes and reset the ECU and drive it again in PWR mode.

It won't shift automatically for you. It will let you get just to red line but no more. It will cut out until you shift or bring the rpms back down.

You didn't cause any engine damage because Lexus won't let you lol. I've done it so many times in my GS400 over the years I've lost count.

Pure speculation but maybe as the revs climbed you lost a bit of traction and the tranny couldn’t shift fast enough? I’ve it the rev limiter before in both modes and often that shift takes a while, or seemly a while.

Was the motor/trans still "cold", or in other words, was it at operating temp yet?
