I keep reading that everyone with replacement intake tubes like the Joe Z or F sport notice a decrease in engine noise because that resonator type chamber that's removed makes the whole thing quieter. I was under the assumption that that made it quieter, and if you removed it the car was louder.
What has been your experiences with removing this chamber? If this thing did indeed make it quieter I would buy the intake solely for that purpose. Anyone?

It's quieter for sure. I actually just sold my Joe Z intake & put stock back on a few days ago. If you want the oem tube quieter. Unbolt the resonator and cover up the pipe with electrical tape and reinstall it. Just make sure you wrap the small pipe to secure the tape you put across the hole. Reference like adding teflon tape to a fitting.
This is for a IS250. The 350 has another style resonator.

That's not my experience. The stock tube with resonator should be quieter. I have the fsport, just the tube, and is just slightly louder then the stock. The real noise increase comes if you put an additional hole in the airbox, or use the fsport box which has the extra hole in it.

The stock intake tube for the 2IS should be quieter than aftermarket options. It's on the 3IS where it's going to be quieter because the induction noise generator would be removed and not be feeding the sounds into the car via the speakers.
