Hello everyone! I am looking at buying an 06 is350 with 170k on it but getting hesitant because of the high milage. I was just cerious to see what other high milage 350s have on them on here and to see if there's anything serious that I should be aware of.
Thanks

Welcome to the forums.
I would not buy a car with 170k miles, but everybody has their own reasons.
I bought mine 4 years ago with ~110k and now it is almost at 160k. I have replaced rear struts, one of the rear calipers, and one O2 sensor during my ownership of the car. Car drives smooth and runs great so far. I plan on keeping it for another 40k miles or even longer if I will resist the temptation to buy something more recent and nicer.
Try utilizing search option. You should find multiple threads about high mileage 250s and 350s.
There are only a handful of IS's even back from 06 that have high miles. My IS only just turned 134k and she still runs nice. Haven't had any major issues
My advice with people buying high mileage cars is be aware the cost to fix (IF ANY). Its always best to be mechanically inclined or have someone available who is. The IS engines are pretty reliable and I have yet to see anyone with any MAJOR engine trouble when properly maintained. I think that's where you need to do research on the car. Make sure people have maintenance records of what and how it was done. that is really the only thing I can say. All I know is a lower mileage car means less of a chance of someone skipping a few oil changes or regular maintenance
a 170k car may be a great car and last another 150k. OR it can last 20k and be a dud. its all about if you can be okay with that
Thanks fellas. I've been thinkin about it and I think its too many miles. I know thoes motors are pretty reliable but I can't pull the trigger on it. I use to have a is300 with 256k on it that ran like a top but want something a little newer and quicker ha.
I think the miles don't matter as much on current cars as they used to. I pay more attention to maintenance records and the way the car looks and drives.
If the car looks rough or doesnt drive the greatest then I would probably shy away from it. Same can be said if it has very little recorded maintenance.
Also price is a big factor on a car of that mileage.
Currently I have a 2007 IS350 with 164,xxx miles and still running great. But it has been well maintained. Before that I had a 2008 ISF with 105,xxx miles on it, which I purchased with higher miles on it, and had zero problems with it.
I'm at 123k on mine and it runs Great still. Pulls just as hard as when I bought it with 79k miles 2 years ago. However I do upkeep my car, and do all required maintenance even if it isn't actually necessary. The only problem I've ever had were a broken Tire pressure sensor after I brok my stock wheel when I hit a huge pothole going 50mph in the fog. But that's my fault of course..
I'm sure the car your looking at will last a long time still but I would check to make sure it was properly maintained first.
I still think you should just keep looking for a lower mileage example though. You can get a decent deal if you look around and keep an open mind, just buy one that is well maintained above all else.
I'm a proud owner of a 2007 is350 rwd with 162k. I would recommend checking out the lexus vehicle history of a potential purchase to see what work has been done under warrenty.
My car has had the vvt recall done. Other things to look for with high milage are leaky water pumps, slipping trans and worn suspension/wheel bearings.
I'm replacing all my wheel bearings with Timken hubs. The rears are getting especially noisy. Doing all 4 will give me some piece of mind.

Also check all vin numbers on body panels.
when you say the bearings are getting noisy, what kinda noise does it make and when? trying to pin point the issue on my car
Toyota products has been proven to be well made, with this said i wouldn't hesitate on buying a Lexus with high mileage as long as it looks, feel, drive and maintain well. I haven seen any toyota product that fail easily, even at some point of neglect and not maintain on schedule time.It still wont die. lol
True story, i have a friend that has a 2006 350 since new. It has 155k now and 90% of the mileage is racing and thrashing mileage. lol and the car drive great and motor sound great. During the years he only has to replace was a alternator and battery and tires. Beside regular oil change of course, and the car will not die and run strong.

Well I went to look at the car tonight and it was bad news. Me and my buddy took it for a test drive and one of the rear wheel bearing were blown out. It had a slight clunk over bumps like the front struts or sway bar links were bad. all they did was an oil change and knew nothing else about the car and said the car pretty much had nothing wrong with it when clearly it did Haha. I dont think I'm gonna get it but there's another one I'm interested in that only has 115k on it.
