Default Tire help!

Hi everyone!
I need experts help...
I have a 2010 IS 250 and i need to replace only 1 rear tire. The front tires i got a little more than a year ago when i bought the car. And one of the rear tires i got brand new about a year ago. I need to replace one rear tire but its super expensive! On the tire it says: Bridgestone Turanza ER 33 and the size is 255/40R18 95Y. I think this means its 18in ??? I also dont know what the 95Y means. They've told me that i can either use 17 in. Or 18in. The front ones say: 225/40R18 88Y....what do all these numbers mean? I want to know if there is a better brand i can switch to that is less expensive or should i just replace it with the same brand? I want a tire i can use all year around. Lol PLEASE HELP ME! I dont want my car to mess up.

Stick to the tire size you originally have. That is the factory tire size. Your wheels requires 18 inch. You can't get 17.

Do not replace them with Bridgestone Turanza. They are garbage. I would recommend Continental DW or Hankook Evos.

Thank you so much for your feedback. I am planning on changing to a different brand. This is probably a dumb question but i want to change 2 at a time. Is it bad for the car if i change to a different brand just my 2 rear and leave the front ones Bridgestone Turanza until its time to change those???

That is fine. I do that all the time. I would recommend the Continental DW. And Continental DWS if you are planning to drive in the snow.

You need a 255/40/18 size, the 95Y is a highspeed rating. Depending on how much tread is left on your good rear tire, you can buy 1 or 2 tires. Whatever you do the new tires must be compatable with the front tires. I got new rear tires at Performance Plus on Cherry in Long Beach today. Good tire store.

I think you pretty much got your answers. Anyways, I would like to add:
225 refers to how wide the tire is, this 225 usually goes with 8inch wide wheel.
40 is the ratio which is ONE of the parameters that determine how tall your side wall is. Generally the bigger the number, the taller or fatter your sidewall is. The sidewall tallness also depends on the 225 number too.
18 refers to the wheel diameter which is 18 inch here.

My suggestion is to stick with the OEM specs: 225/40/18 front and 255/40/18 rear.
Also, when you change tires, you should change 2 (front) or 2 (rear) or all at the same time if budget allows. It is better (not a requirement) to have all 4 tires with the same brand and model.

Good tires that I know: Hankook v12, Continental DW etc similar to what smokyis350 said.

Like FSport said. You really should change 2 tires at a time per axle. The reason being they will wear out evenly. Like the situation you have going on now. You only need one because you only replaced one last time and now you're needeing the other. I have run different brand tires on the front than the rear, don't think that will kill you but when it's time get the matching brand for the front.
