I was curious about getting this done for my car once I get back from deployment. I didn't see any solid threads on it to do any quality research. So here goes...
Has anyone done this to their rims, have a grasp of the process, pricing, and recommendations as far as....is structural integrity maintained? I want to do a crazy color on some vossen CVTs (yeah. lol). My alternative is powder coating, but the color on anodized seems a bit more vibrant.
google it.. there are tons of images.. vossens, incurve, volks, works... many streamliners.. anodized candy colors look great.. but in my case I always look for the classy look.. never runs out of style
Anodizing looks cool (as you know haha) but it's not nearly as durable when compared to powder coat. It's essentially "dying" the metal. For example, red anodized wheels (daily driven) may start to appear pink over time.
Have you tried looking into "anodized-type" powder coats? Look up casper clear powder coat, it creates a somewhat anodized effect
Here is a picture of our VMR V706 in a Velvet Red powder coat :

thank you, this was very helpful.
dumb question--is it possible to remove a powder coat without damaging the rim? or once its done, its done?

Of course! It can also depend on what methods were used/will be used when doing strip/recoat. Putting the wheel through several rounds of high heat may contribute to a decrease in structural integrity.
We always recommend going to a shop that has ample amount of experience in working with wheels. To decrease this possibility, we always use cold-strip rather than other methods. After powder coat has been re-done, we also perform lateral/radial runout of the wheel.. just to double check everything is on point
