2IS vs 3IS 0-60
Motor Trend tested a new IS350 RWD 8 speed at 5.6 seconds and a new IS350 AWD 6 speed at 5.3 seconds.
For reference:
The difference between a 2013 IS350 RWD (3,527 lbs) and a 2014 IS350 RWD (3,593 lbs) is 66 lbs.
The difference is smaller on the AWD models. The difference between a 2013 IS350 AWD (3,703 lbs) and a 2014 IS350 AWD (3,737 lbs) is 34 lbs.
This has me thinking it has more to do with gearing on that new 8 speed than weight. A 66 pound difference will not add .5 seconds to a 0-60. And 200 extra pounds shouldn't take .3 seconds off the 0-60. Looks to me like the 6 speed is just better at putting power down than the 8 speed, though the 8 speed is a good bit better on gas.
EDIT:
This video may actually clear that up, the 2014 with 8 speed needs 2 shifts to hit 60, the 2013 with the 6 speed only needs one. That extra shift could easily add that .5 seconds to the 0-60

The new transmission is much better at the mid and top end. However, first gear in the 2IS is still the fastest, but a side effect is that we lose some top end speed.
If im not mistaken, the new 8speed is taken from the ISF. ISF owners have swapped over the 2IS gear ratio to achieve faster 0-60 times.
Another factor is 2IS (350) has better gear ratios than 3IS (350) 8spd, therefore pulls harder in low gears.
Same thing between 3IS350 AWD vs. 3IS350 RWD, the AWD has the same 6spd as before.
Now whether the big difference is the transmission, or the fact that I have intake and exhaust, idunno. I was under the impression that intake and exhaust were pretty minor performance improvements.
I would like to see the comparison in 0-100 and 0-120 MPH. I think both cars will eventually have little gap since 3IS will probably pull harder after 60.

My 2007 Saab Aero's 6 speed Shiftronic was as slow as this one but at least it shifted the gears when I pushed the paddle. SMH

When you change out the final drive (located in the rear diff) you change the torque multiplication of all your gears. Since the 2IS has such an aggressive final drive, it feels like a monster, well relatively speaking.. I swear the 2IS 350 has a neck snapping first gear.

IS-F owners experimented for a time with the final drive from a 2IS 350, the result made 1st and 2nd gear pretty much useless and just blew the tires away..The conclusion pretty much was that the stock IS-F gearing and final drive were perfectly matched for the 5.0L V8, it should be, it was developed specifically for that car. I think the 6psd was a much better match for the 3.5L V6 in the 350.
In my opinion I think Toyota was just being lazy and didn't want to develop a whole new drivetrain for the 3IS so they just went into the parts bin and slapped together the old 3.5 V6 engine and whatever sporty transmission they had. As a result, you now have a slower accelerating car..but with better gas mileage.

Overall gear ratios:
2013 IS350 RWD vs. 2014 IS350 RWD
1st: 14.37 / 14.40
2nd: 8.34 / 8.59
3rd: 5.72 / 5.84
4th: 4.08 / 4.59
5th: 2.91 / 3.86
6th: 2.38 / 3.13
7th: ---- / 2.58
8th: ---- / 2.15

In other words: 1st gear in the 2IS and 3IS IS350 RWD are pretty much identical, 2nd through 4th are almost the same as well, with the 3IS being just slightly shorter gearing (though the rear tires are smaller, giving a slightly shorter effective gearing).

so if what your saying is true then i shouldn't be smoking my friends 2015 is350 f sport with my 2007 is350
There are HUGE discrepancies here. We can verify a 2007 is350 can hit 0-60 in 4.9 and 13.5 1/4
I'm not seeing these number for the 3is Any-Wur ( cleveland brown voice*)
If your saying the 8 speed 3.133 final drive is numerically better gears than the 6 speed 4.08 and showing me proof i'm not going to argue.
Why then are the 2is so much faster? It obviously isn't the 60 pound weight difference.
is it simply the need to over shift to reach 60mph in the 3is? 8 gears is over kill in a 3.5 v6 imho

i test drove friends is350 f sport...... Hard launches like a true friend
If i hadn't seen this numerical data i'd swear the ONLY real thing that makes the 2is 350 faster than the 3is 350. 1st gear. The 2is 350 just launches so beasty
