Im writing from Dubai, just bought my first lexus IS300 2010 from used cars market, first week navigation unit was restarting couple of times in a day, now it keeps turning on and off very often.. I give it to one electrical repair shop, this guy was checking all day every details, finally he told me it might be processor error and I need to replace whole unit which is very expensive (arount 4,500$).
Any suggestions? Can I find only processor on ebay or elswre? anyone else has experienced problem like that with navigation system?
From what I've read and have come to an educated guess on the issue is HEAT. Extreme temps inside the NAV unit over time break down the electrical contacts and cause failures. I fixed my issue by replacing the entire upper NAV screen portion. The other option is to have someone pinpoint the issue and fix it. I'd recommend finding an electrical expert to look at it for you.
Hi buddy, thanks for reply.. No my issue is a bit different, it keeps shut down for a certain time and then again it starts working.. something like someone unplugged from power source and then plugged it again.. I showed one electrician and they said its a processor issue and I need to change whole unite since I can not find processor only..
I am thinking of finding same unit but used one.. no more choice
^Well, what you described happened a couple of times within the video link above; but I understand you might not have watched the ENTIRE thing.
Anyhow, check out ebay or your local Craigslist; I found mine from a local selling other Lexus 2IS parts. The listing was only for a IS350 motor and trans, but I asked about the NAV unit...for which I was lucky he said he had a working '08 NAV unit. Agreed upon only $400! SOLD! Easy swap.
