I'm not sure if this is the best place to ask but... I just bought a 2010 IS250 on Labor Day, 58k miles and I'm loving it so far.

Today while driving home from work, I was at a red light. I was in automatic, and I press down on the pedal, not too hard, just to try and get it going and I start sputtering along at 15~20 MPH, and my RPM shoots up to 4-5k. (basically the exact reaction as if I'm trying to accelerate while in 1st gear and I don't shift up) I'm confused since I was in automatic, but thinking I might've hit it into manual, I tried to shift up with the paddles and nothing happens. Now I physically reach down and make it go into manual, shift up and the car runs fine.

After a bit, I switch back to automatic and try to accelerate again, everything's fine, works great. Anyone have any idea what could've happened to make it do this?

This is my first car in a long while and I'd have to have it in the shop after just a week...

 

Could have been a simple trans solenoid fault. But defaulting over the manual mode and upshifting obviously fixed it. I'd keep an eye for this, and if it continues start to worry. But as a one-off instance, I'd not worry about it just yet.
