I just got a 2011 is250 for my 18th birthday yesterday. I was tightening the screws for the lip spoiler and realized there a extra wire hanging near the license plate area. I'm thinking that's the backup camera wire. Is it possible to buy a used camera from a 2007 is250 ($200) and a used 2006 navi ($800), to use in my car? Is it a simply a plug and use item?

 

If you don't already have navigation, you can't add an OEM navigation and camera. Another alternative is to buy after market nav that looks like OEM and you can hook up camera with if you want. See this thread here:

The camera is the same one used on all models but on the 09+ models they changed the middle a/c vents. So that means they will not line up properly like how they are supposed to. And by the way Happy later Birthday, hope you enjoy your Lexus. Welcome to Club Lexus and happy modding

 

Actually a couple of members have swapped in the OEM Navi into their none navi cars. Now take it that swap is not an easy thing but it is possible.

 

way your 2011 lexus doesnt have navigation system but only back up camera?

 

If your car didnt have nav from factory you will not have a back up camera.

 

Back up camera only comes with the navi. He was asking if is it possible to get the navi unit of an 06 model and the camera of an 07 model on his 2011 IS250 since his IS did not come with navi

Yea it is, and pricey you are right. . But what about the a/c vents from the 09 and up models. They are different from the 06-08 models.

 

So if I get a 2006 camera and 2009+ navi? Work it work?

 

the lexus rx350 2013 has the back up camera but no navigation. it is weird. my mom was thinking to trade her old rx350 for the new looking rx350 so i don't know...

 

you mom was probably looking at the one that shows on the rear view mirror i guess.

 

i forgot about those. my homies mom has a CT and his is like that. no navi but it has a back up cam, it just shows in the rear view mirror. its pretty dope
