Red face Replace OEM camera with aftermarket...

I would like to replace the OEM rear view camera on my 2006 RX400h with an after market, CCD, rear view camera, with distance gauge, IR/night vision (or LED lights). I've been looking at some with a SONY chip, wth ~ 480-520 TV lines HR and at least 140-170 degree visual angle... that can go where the OEM camera is presently located. Any suggestions? What other Toyota/Lexus models have the same OEM rear view camera? They don't seem to carry much of anything for the 2006 RX400h.

I think you would be limited by the lower resolution display on the 06 400h. The 07-08 models have a higher-resolution display. So a new camera may not improve the image since you are limited by the number of pixels on the 06 display. You may try to find some brighter reverse light bulbs which could help with the night vision on the OEM backup camera.

Default RX400h rear view camera replacement

Thank you so much for your answer. Since I posted my question I have decided to trade the 2006 RX400H for a 2012 RX450H.

You were quite correct, Thomas... the camera does need to complement the display resolution. So on further reflection, investing more time and money to update an older, high mileage vehicle, makes no sense... so that was the logic to get a newer car. Thank you again for taking the time to respond.
