Default DIY - Steering ECU replacement

I have searched but come up with nothing--is there at all a DIY to replacing the ECU?

- Do I need to remove the car battery? If not, do i need to ensure it is disconnected before pulling out the steering ECU? Can I just pop out o fuse so that I do not lose any error codes in the main ECU and the presets for radio, seats, etc?

thanks

disconnect battery and completely take out of car. remove black tray under battery. Remove oem steering ecu. Replace with new ecu. TAke to shop with techstream to get calibrated or you will not have power steering working. it will feel like a go cart.

i thought the calibration was only required for a new ECU and recommended for brand new ones. Mine came from another IS--forgot to mention that.

who besides dealers has this thing? does a toyota dealer have techstream or only lexus?

you can drive with the ecu calibrated for the other car.. its just not calibrated for YOUR car. That in mind, i dont think your steering would be any more precise by just dropping it in, so i can only encourage you to get it calibrated, by anyone with a tech stream that is qualified to do it.

Toyota or Lexus dealer will have a Techstream, some other people may have a Techstream Lite. Both can calibrate it, you really should have it calibrated after installing it, even if it is from another car.

Part is under the battery as was stated.

yea mine came out of another is too that was calibrated. I didnt recalibrate mine but that could be the reasoning of why my steering feels somewhat off. I definetly recomend spending the 50 bucks to calibrate i just havent got around to it.

Can someone confirm where the power steering ECU is located? My mechanic told me it was under the cover below and to the left of the steering wheel, but in this thread someone said it was located under the battery. Google has been no help at all.

Remove the battery, remove the bottom cover, the ECU is mounted under there.

It is not in your dash or near your steering wheel.

Yup, found that out yesterday. Swapped it out and now the car runs great. Dunno what the mechanic was talking about.

Based on what you've posted, you're talking about very different things that what this thread is about. Your ES has hydraulic steering and you're having issues with the smart key steering lock ECU. I have moved your post to a new thread in the appropriate ES forum here: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/es-...ogramming.html

Hope that helps.

Under the battery. After the battery is out, pop off the tray and the ECU is right there.
