So I finally got tired of people blasting their music while im bumping my cute little 8" sub or w.e the non ML 350's system came with and thinking of upgrading to a 12" sub without breaking the bank. People are quoting me ridiculous prices because it's headunit doesn't have the rca's and needs the converter and apparently all the wiring process takes longer. So if anyone got some advice or some clean setup's that doesn't take the whole trunk and hits hard let me know. So far the best enclosure I've found for an awesome price would be this one:
You can get by with using a LOC(line out converter), or if you want to be fancy, you can get an audio processor.
A sub/amp combo should run from 400-500 for a good setup. With cables and wiring too, you'd still be under budget. Many people like JL audio for subs. They tend to hit very hard for the amount of power supplied.
What's the process of adding an AM sub? Like with the LOC, do I run wires from the stock amp in the trunk to the LOC then the sub or what? I would really like to do this but don't know how to go about it
I've read that thread. I kinda get it but not. Do I HAVE to get an AM amp or can I use the stock amp already in the car? I'm only looking to put in one 12"
You need an aftermarket amp - the stock amp output is designed for the specific sub in the car (8ohm i believe). The power output at 8ohms isnt going to work on an aftermarket sub very well. Also - in the linked thread its going to tell you to combine the front and sub channels with a Y rca - dont - its electronically very bad.

Unless you get a sub rated for the same power levels as the stock one, its not recommended. Reason being, you are more likely to damage a sub by under-powering it...especially if it's rated for nominal power of say 200 watts, when the stock one is just 50w(just a guess, IDK the sub power on an OE setup). Definitely spend the cheese to get a monoblock amp for the sub.

Thank you guys! This was the information I was needing but couldn''t get a clear answer. You CL peeps are awesome
I like the setup's so far, the only thing i hate about those side mount sub enclosures is 1. idk how hard they hit and 2. $350+ for just a box? I can get 2 Rockford fosgate P3's for that much haha or close to a JL W6, Keep the advice coming!!!!
You seen my set up before but here it is again. Custom made and can get to my spare with no problem. The facing is card board with carpet wrapped on it and it fits so snug I can remove it and put it back in with no problem. It hits so hard through my ski port its unbelivable. People think i have 2 12's
