frozen rear calipers
hey guys,
i'm attempting to change my brake pads and realized my rear caliper is seized and it's preventing me from fitting my outer pads.
any idea how much i should pay to have it replaced? the hub is fine but i'm trying to figure out what part(s) i need to rebuild a new caliper. or i might just pay a shop to do it.
thanks!

My rear calipers were seized up and replaced for free under the Lexus extended warranty this past summer. It might have been done under the campaign posted above, but the dealer did not state that.

This happened to my car as well. I brought it in to the dealership as I thought it would be covered, but then they told me that they inspected them and applied grease to the slide pins when I was in for a different TSIB a couple years ago, so now it's not covered and they wanted $900 to replace both calipers. I ended up buying replacement calipers from Sewell and just replaced them myself.

Mine were seized as well. Picked up a pair from Rock Auto. Word of advice though; you may want to paint them before you put them on, as mine are already rusted on the outside after just a couple months.

Take the caliper completely off put it on a vise, Get a propane torch and heat only the part with the pin. Spray some PB blast keep trying to work it but leveraging the caliper or put it on a vise. It will free up, just have to put time into it. Once you have it free and separated, clean the pin and the inside of the shaft with steel wool and put a lot of grease in there.
BTW Most auto part stores carry the pins there like 9 bucks. I think calipers were 90 bucks each.
Worked like a charm for me! Took me 1-2 hours to free them up

At this point I'm seriously thinking that I'll be visiting Lexus in the morning, as this vehicle had been in to Lexus back in 2010 for the rear caliper boot TSIB. Obviously they didn't fix it right. So I'm left wondering what the chances are that I could get Lexus to cover the replacement of the calipers? Is it worth my time?
Hope you enjoy my misery! LOL!

I had the same problem you just encountered. Was changing my brakes and rotors found out that the rear calipers on both seized up. I read about the tsib and honestly it's not worth my time as I bought them from rock auto and used 2 day shipping (I need my car I work 25 miles from home and was using my dads v8 tundra. Gas was crazy)
260 ish with 2 day shipping and once I gr my credit back for the cores total cost would be 110 cause unused 2 day shipping with out shipping 62 bucks. Going to Lexus from my house would cost 20 bucks and waiting for them and going through the hassle. Not worth the time, ill spend the money.
