Default new member is250 smoky granite mica

was unable to retrieve my last username password so i created a new one

im from so cal
with 07 smokey granite is250‎ sedan
a bit passed 74k miles

im aware of common is250 the carbon build-up issue. and not sure of the previous maintenance so i want to swap out the plugs and drop in a new air filter this week.

im looking at oem plugs,
quick question any is250 owners, any one here accomplished swapping out the plugs on the driver side with out removing the intake manifold?

i know the is250 and is350 are similar but different designed intake manifolds. and i have seen is1350 owner do so with out removing much besides coil pack harness and brackets
.
preference choice : oem paper filter or k&n quality filter?

help would be appreciated

85 views and no suggestions hmmm

Anyways I spoke to a Lexus tech and confirmed that intake has to come off to get to the last two plugs (driver side)
Great! Probably more time consuming than a lt1 based gm vehicle !

Some members here have said they have been able to do it by simply loosening the bolts for the intake manifold, without having to completely remove it. I'm not as mechanically inclined, so I can't say i've done it myself or anything.

As far as the air filter goes, if you're not going to change the intake and are just keeping the stock set up, the OEM filter should be fine. WIX also sells a good replacement filter (I use them myself) that are cheaper, comparable alternatives.

Filters wise, are you referring to the re-useable filters? K&N is an "oiled" filter, so you have to clean and re-oil it every 15k miles. This isn't really an issue if you're careful with the amount of oil but if overdone can cause issues with the MAF sensor. Wix and the F-sport drop in filters don't require re-oiling but still need to be cleaned.

Spark plug wise, the OEM plugs from Sewell are the way to go (~$13 ea. after CL discount) and come pre-gapped. I changed them on my 350 but I'm not sure about the 250. There's a DIY thread that may help you: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/is-...necessity.html.

Its really easier than it looks. Dont let the taking off the intake scare you. I did one on a 250 just over an hrs to do. I sound/looks harder then it is to do it trust me. If you dont take the intake manifold off it just harder then just removing the nuts that hold it.

went pretty well..
im relieved and ready to see some mpg improvements.

i loosened up all the bolts for the intake manifold and slid a towel in between. cleaned up the intake ports a bit, also the gaskets seemed fine. i had enough room to pull out the coils and plugs with out completely pulling out the intake manifold.
