The dealer agreed to replace mine tomorrow. I requested 2012 or 2013 lights hoping there'd be some kind of update to fix the issue. The dealer said they can only give me the current model year headlights due to warranty concerns.
That but there can yet be another thing I noticed during my retrofit of my 2012 lights. The LED check mark is basically made of see through plastic and is painted from the inside. Once the black is cured I noted that the manufacturer then applied a chrome type of paint onto the black to better reflect the LEDs. I have a broken light and I noticed that on that broken light the chrome paint was flaking off which over time could possible damage the black paint in the process.
If anyone would like to see what I mean I can take pictures of that light and show you guys what I mean.
could you post pics
all the pics i see looks like its painted on the outside
I just got mine replaced today. I noticed the area that was bubbling before is now a glossier black. I checked a 2013 model in the showroom and it is identical. I am presuming they are 2013 headlights. Does that mean the LED running lights are a bluer white? I am not sure if I can tell a difference.
This thread is about the newer headlights with the glossy finish having the problem as well. Your concern is the original headlights that had the problem and TSIB released to update them to the newer lights.
I was at my dealer in the Chicago area on Friday and looked at the new IS models in the lot. There were 8 cars all with the protective sheets still on the cars, so they were obviously the latest arrivals. 5 of the 8 had the bubbling.
So how bad does this look in person? I'm thinking about buying the 2012 HID lights, but not sure with this ... do you guys think it'll get worst over time?
I think mine are getting worse over time, but it's not that noticeable since it's inside the lamp, so unless you get close and look at it you don't see it. But once you see it you will always know that it is there and will bug you to look at it, at least that's how it is with me.
i recently noticed my headlight has the bubbling issue also, and these are the ones with the eye lashes, which replaced the orginal led's. Hopefully Sewell can warranty out my lights again. Sucks to have the same issue happen with the second set. PITA to remove/install stuff. lol
I have an appointment to have the headlights replaced on my 2011 IS350 this Saturday. I was originaly going to do it a week ago but they did not have the latest headlights in stock so they had to order them.
