Default Interesting conversation with my navigation unit today...

Me: "I need gas"
Navi: "Showing POI for Toyota Dealership"

Me: "I need a gas station"
Navi: "Pardon?"

Me: "Find a gas station!"
Navi: "You are not on route guidance"
?
Me: "Show POI for gasoline station!!"
Navi: "There is no third destination"

Me: "Gasoline Station!!!!"
Navi: "showing POI for higher education"

Me: "Service station!"
Navi: "showing POI for Lexus dealership"

By now my screen is cluttered with everything; universities, hospitals, ATMs, you name it -except a gas station. I have 10 miles to empty.

Me: "Just kill yourself."
Navi: "switching to dual map mode"

So what gives? I can say "I'm hungry" and get a restaurant, but I can't ask for gas??

Is there a list somewhere of things that she understands?
And while I'm at it, can I please turn off the "After the beep, please say a command" prompt. I almost lost it today.

There isn't much in terms of casual voice recognition. Just follow the prompts on the screen and you'll get what you need in this case hit the push to talk switch and say "destination" "Near hear" "POI" "Gas" and voila a list of nearby gas stations. Once you hit the push to talk you can hit it one more time so she doesn't list anything it just goes straight to the beep

Oh God thank you!

There was a lot more to that conversation, that I won't go in to, but F-you somehow translated into "Chinese Food".

It took me a few minutes to get it out of dual map mode, then another few to clear my POIs.

I should try that. I never personally used the voice rec part thou. Maybe I should talk to it in Chinese to see if it knows what I'm saying.

yeah it can be frustrating for sure

Personally I wish they would implement a system like Apple's Siri which could control navi, phone, temp etc.. with casual recognition rather than certain prompts. Which also recognizes speech better than the Lexus system does. I get a lot of guests who don't speak English very well so trying "dial by number" for example never works. Mainly because you have to speak loudly and clearly - in English.

Older models like my 08' you could hit the push to talk switch and say "temperature 67 degrees". The newer models at least with the 13' GS you can only say "warmer" or "cooler" and it adjusts by 4 degrees.

A better system needs to be implemented, that or touchscreen/remote touch needs to be able to be used while the vehicle is in motion

The only one i've ever had work is the "I'm hungry". There is also a setting to eliminate the "after the beep say a command" verbiage but I forget where it is.

I had a flashback to our old MB's Linguatronic feature. It didn't work at all.
This was more entertaining, I was laughing the whole time - but only because crying in traffic is lame.
