This is the only "tangible" stuff that they do in the 60K service. If you look closely at the list you'll see that everything else is "inspect <this item>". If you're unable to that yourself then go ahead and pay for the inspections as well.

A forum search will return tons of answers on this topic. First off, you're doing this completely wrong. NEVER schedule a "__k service". By doing that, you're telling the dealership "Hey, I have no idea what the car needs, but I'm at 60k and I know it needs something, so charge me whatever you like and I'll pay it!"

The RIGHT way to do this is to read your owner's manual and learn what maintenance your car needs. It basically boils down to:

Every 5k - oil change
Every 15k - engine, cabin air filter
Every 30k - brake fluid flush
Every 60k - spark plugs
Every 100k - coolant change

That's really about it. So for 60k, you need an oil change, brake fluid flush, spark plug change, and filters change. Oil change should be ~$50, brake fluid ~$100, filters are $30 on Sewell and you install them yourself, and spark plugs range from $400-600. 6 spark plugs from Sewell will be $75, from a dealer they'll be $150, and most dealers charge 3-5 hours' labor for the replacement. If your car needs an engine service - either the fuel pressure sensor recall, carbon build up TSIB, cam gear TSIB, etc - do the spark plugs at the same time since the pre-work is the same and they'll only charge a half hour's labor.

But basically if you call your dealership and say "I need the 60k service" they'll just make up a number and charge you, and it will be very high. If you call the dealership and say "I need an oil change, brake fluid flush, and spark plug change. What's the cost for all 3 together?" it will sum to far, far less than what they quoted you for the 60k service. That's because when you call for the 60k service, they'll pad the cost with things like "check this, inspect that, test drive this, measure that", none of which is necessary and just adds labor hours.

Call your dealer, the one that quotes $800 for the 60k service (which is already lower than a lot I've heard), and ask them to quote you the price for those 3 services. It will be less than $800. Then buy your filters and plugs on Sewell to save even more money.

Just get the spark plugs, brake flush and oil change done by the dealer. The engine air filter and cabin filter you can install yourself, even a novice can do it without much trouble. They tack on inspections too for the "60k service" and you really don't need to be paying for inspections.

If your fine with taking your car to an independent Lexus repair shop, you can probably get the 60k (inspections and all) done for about $350-450. At least that was the range I was quoted by shops around SoCal.

You could break up the service too...

Spark plugs - $90 shipped on Sewell with the CL discount - Free or cheap labor if you need the Carbon Build up TSIB done. Or about $150-200 in labor at shops.

Cabin and Engine air filters - Do them yourself. Seriously, they are very easy to change out.

Brake fluid flush - About $75 at an independent shop, closer to $150 at the dealerships. Though mine does it for about $90 with a coupon that's always been around.

Oil change - whatever your used to paying. I supply my own oil ($40) and they give me the labor + filter for about $45 at the Lexus dealership.

Thanks for the info. I was only scheduling a oil change I'm pretty far away from 60k on in the mid 40's. Just thought that was a little high on 60 k service. But thanks again on all the info will have that in mind when the time comes

Just did the 30k service at the dealership. Although Lexus recommends replacing the brake fluid, the local dealer only replaced the brake fluid in the reservoir. This was confirmed by the service writer. What a rip off.

I guess I totally missed the need for this brake bleeding on my car. I have yet to do it and am just over 34,000 miles. I will have to do this soon I guess...
