Lighter port + Ipod
Alright so when i use my aux cable to play through my iPod everything sounds fine, but when i also use the lighter port to charge it at the same time i get weird static/whiny noises? Anyone heard of a problem like this and what is the best way to fix it? I'm probably going to take it to the dealership, but rather not if i can fix it myself. 2009 lexus is250 awd

This is not a problem that can be fixed. This is the amplifier magnifing the interference from the power source(cigarette lighter adapter) and it comes through the speakers as static. You will look like a complete fool if you take it to the dealer and ask them to fix this.
The "problem" is a ground loop. They add a group loop filter to the AUX port in the center console, and voila, problem is gone.
All free under warranty.
If you're OUT of warranty then you can do it yourself following the TSIB directions (though the part will likely be a lot cheaper at radio shack than the lexus part that does the same thing)
Here's one of the many threads on the topic:

it goes back to 2007... includes a copy of the TSIB
Note that it has been updated since then to include newer models, but the basic process remains the same.

That's completely wrong... not only will they fix it, there's a TSIB detailing the fix for exactly this issue.
