Hi. I have notice today that front hub/bearing is making noise in my IS 250.
Sewell says $250 a piece!!! After club lexus discount, I thought maybe I could get it from NAPA or Autozone somehow cheaper? What do you think is it going to be ok buying bearing/hub from NAPA or autozone for Lexus? I hope replacement will be easy DIY...? Thank you

 

So what you are saying is that you need a new wheel bearing assembly? I recommend Timken or Moog replacement bearings.

 

The front hub bearing assy has an internal ABS wheel speed sensor. That is part of the cost of the part.

Stay away from cheap bearing assemblies... lots of junk out there.


Easy to replace.

Remove caliper
Remove rotor
Remove 4 hub assembly bolts from back side of steering knuckle.

clean dirt and rust from all mating surfaces before re-install.

Re install

Hub assy bolts 51 ft lb torque
caliper bracket 58 ft lb

So can I separate them somehow I mean abs sensor from hub assembly, or they are assembled together and can not go apart?

P.S. What do you think Gregz_IS. Gville 350 said Timken or Moog will be a good idea. I used some parts from Moog already, besides they have good opinion in Europe.

 

ABS sensor is inside hub. All part of the same assembly.

Timken or Moog should be good stuff.

hey guys i just replaced my front wheel hub on my lexus is350, i had my abs vsc and traction light on, i thought after my change of the hub it would go off and it didn't. any idea why it didn't or do i have ti take it to the dealership., thanks a lot

 

did you plug everything good? They usually come off when you move your car a couple of feet forward.

 

yes everything plugged in, i took it to the dealership, we'll see what they say

 

Has anyone had any luck finding a quality aftermarket part? I looked online last night and all I could find was the rear bearings and I need the front.

Can anyone point me in the right direction for a front hub assembly. Trying not to pay the $250 each at Lexus.

I've found this Timken front Driver's side Hub and Bearing Kit (see link below) and with Gregz_IS's description of the work and torque settings... it should be painless. At Meineke, they quote $450 for the Hub and Bearing kit (marked up) and $190 for the labor... so this saves approximately $420, that's huge.
But my question is, I don't see the ABS sensor connection on the picture of the Hub and Bearing set... what does the connection look like?

make sure the sounds not coming from your tires. I thought my car had the same problem, but it ended up being due to tire cupping. Replaced the front tires and the sound disappeared.

 

I'll check that... didn't think of that... now I had recently taken my car to get a new upgraded brake system installed and the mechanic is the one that told me about the hub... I can put the full size spare on and if the noise stops... BAM !! I just found the issue and thanks to you, I knew to look there
