Default What is this!!! [device on windshield]

Hi Guys,

I picked up my IS 250 2008 two months ago which i love by the way. I'm thinking of putting a heat reduction clear film on the front windshield. Here's the question; What's the device shown in the pictures next to the rear view mirror. I have checked the owners manual, bing and google but no luck. Looks like a sensor with has a wire going to the rear view mirror. Any information would be nice. Thank you in advance

Its not a rain sensor. My car has the same thing and i DON'T have rain sensors.

Its a Sirius radio antenna.

I know because I asked the same thing like 2 years go haha. Read below:

You are correct, the pictures were a bit dark so it threw me off. The rain sensor is larger and closer to the mirror (right behind it). This is too far to the left and a different shape.

The rain sensor also has a black area on the glass around where it is mounted.

It does look like the Sirius antenna.

EDIT: Google found me a picture showing the rain sensor:

woah. thats a little tacky (the rain sensor). In my benz the sensor was hidden. It was placed on the actual (stick on) part of the rear view mirror.

I am so thankful I don't have the rain sensor if that indeed is the rain sensor... What an eye sore.

Yep, it's for satellite radio. I've got it in my car (though it's been deactivated) and I intend to snip the wires and remove it.

Does that eye sore come from the dealership?

Now I'm worried I have that thing on my car and never noticed it.

Did you guys even bother reading my post?

I even posted a link from when I asked this question TWO years ago. There are some good replys with accesory diagrams showing exactly what it is - a Sirius antenna.

I purchased my car used and it was already on there but looking at service history, I see that the previous owner had it installed at the dealer. The 2006 IS doesn't have a sharkfin antenna, not sure if they have found a more discreet place to mount it in later model vehicles.
