Windshield molding question
Guys,
I just recently purchased a 2008 IS350 from California and had it shipped to me in Texas. I realized after driving it I had wind noise coming from the top of the windshield. After inspecting it I see that the windshield is not original and whoever replaced it did not put the top molding piece back on. WTF??? I was just going to purchase the molding from sewell (under $20) and put it on myself. Does anyone know if this piece is is just pressed in place. I assume it is adhesive backed? Thanks

What top molding? I don't have one either. I don't see it's an option to purchase from Sewell.

I have the same problem with my Lexi too. After buying the car. I didn't realize both of my windshield molding is crack. You need part number 77551 ( left ) and 77552 for right side plus outer clip .
Just order mine from Sewell Lexus with club member discount

Okay, I did check my side moulding and of course it is all cracked and deteriorated. I just dropped it off at the dealer for the low dust pad TSB and asked them to check into the mouldings. I am not sure if they will balk since the windshield is not original. I need to search for the TSB because I don't think it says anything about not being covered if it isn't the original windshield.
Just got a call from the dealer, they replaced my brake pads with the low dust units per the TSB and they claimed they didn't hear any wind noise but agreed to replace both side moldings under warranty due to cracking. They don't think that would cause wind noise but I disagree.

If your car is still under warranty take it to the dealer and they should replace it under warranty. My sister just bought an 08 IS250 and she had these same items replaced under warranty as they were also cracking.

I don't think missing a molding would cause wind noise. Windshields are glued to the car with a black urethane. That urethane sticks and seals it and should be water/air proof. The outer moldings are more of a dressing. What you need to do is have a professional come out remove all the moldings around the windshield, reseal it, and then reinstall the moldings. There is a top molding. it sits flush between the glass and roof.
Yes, I made a mistake thinking I had a top moulding piece missing and that there was a TSB for the side moulding. They are ordering the 2 side pieces and I have an appointment to have them replaced this Thursday. It can't hurt to have them replaced under warranty, and if I still have wind noise I will just take it to a glass shop and see what they can do.
