What is sensor behind our rear view mirror?
Anyone know?
I had to remove my rear view mirror cause it rattles to much.
I don't think the sensor is the auto dim sensor as that is located on the front of the rear view mirror.
Maybe it's the homelink transciever?
I know it's not the rain sensor.
FYI this is on an 06 IS250

I've heard that some of the cars get a sensor/sticker thingy on the back of their mirror when they bring it in for service. They say it's a sort of record keeper thing that they scan to track your car's visit. Not sure of the validity though.
Unless you are talking about the square hole? I think that's the compass.

Okay if it's the hole, let me give some advice here. NEVER let anything metallic get too close to the hole. Like those reflective sunshades or if you hang something metal from the mirror. Messes up the compass big time.
Just came back from the dealer this morning getting a new mirror installed.

It is a sensor for the auto-dim mirror, as it has two sensors. The one that faces the windshield will determine if it is daytime or night time and then the one that faces the rear is to determine if lights are shining from behind, but only if the other sensor has determined it's night time.
